Down to earth pub and a restaurant that feels like a mix of old English and German. Modern amenities and a setup for easy ordering with a QR code and NFC chip to order and pay for anything on the menu, we setup a group tab and though it does make each person log in to share it worked great (expect the first round of drinks that we had to go and chase up). The tall ceilings inside lend themselves to a nice ambience and the volume was high but never felt overwhelming. If you park in the wrong spot (like me) it can be interesting to find the entryway and they do have a sizeable outdoor section with great heating under the canopies. There was a lot of drinking but it didn’t feel like a rowdy place and there were a few families.
Surf & Turf I ordered medium-rare, it was slightly towards the medium end and nicely grilled. This steak had a faint flame grill char flavour which was very subtle. The steak wasn’t too thick and was still a good portion. Garlic Prawns & creamy sauce were excellent, 6 prawns and a creamy sauce that was excellent. Chips were OK, crunchy and not oily. The salad was a good amount, it looked like a bit more dressing than I like was on there but the flavour and choice was excellent. The salad was simple and flavourful and matched perfectly with the rest of the plate. The surf & turf felt like a single meal and not just three elements on a plate.
Entrees Notably the food was delivered on the quick side except the dessert but it was quite late by then. Garlic Bread was nicely made and not overpowering, felt like something that would suit any age. Wedges were nicely flavoured and excellently cooked but a few wedges were way too big, not enough sour cream and more sweet chilli sauce than I needed. Onion rings were amazing, maybe the best I’ve ever had. They came with some sweet chilli sauce but it would’ve been a waste to use it on them, lightly seasoned, perfectly battered and cooked. So yeah, they do really great onion rings
Drinks Not enough staff on the bar tonight so drinks through the menu app were slow. We decided drinks from the bar 5 steps away was something we could walk over and grab ourselves. I had 2 pints of Lemon Lime & Bitters, the first was like every pub made mixed drink that is near impossible to bottle. The 2nd was so perfectly consistent in colour and mix, when it was brought put on the table I was assured he watched it be mad and was in fact ll&b. It tasted fine but not like a normal ll&b.
Service Food Service was excellent and quick. Table clearing was a little bit rough but not an issue. Drink service was quick and fine at the bar but not great through the app. I think just short staffed on the bar tonight or a few more blowing than expected. Staff were friendly, helpful and quick.
Atmosphere I was wary of the Swinging Pig as a restaurant but the food was excellent, the physical space is well laid out and spacious in proportions. The place felt very relaxing and cosy.
Family I saw quite a few families in the restraint. The drinking outside is a little bit on the heavy side but beyond that, this is definitely a family viable place. The menu is simple and easy and whilst not my first choice in the area, I would take my family for onion rings and a meal.
Overall Simple friendly pub with great food. The tap to order and pay was easy for us but can still fail if it gets busy. Turns out the Swinging Pig is a bit of a gem and I’m surprised how...
Read moreI attended my friend's wedding over the weekend and was having so much fun celebrating with them and their friends and family. I was one of the bridesmaid's and so in-between all the jobs I had to do to make the night perfect for the bride and groom. I had 4 drinks over the whole night. When I went to order my 5th and most than likely my last and was informed I was cut off. The bride and groom both asked why and spoke to the manager whom went on to say that I was slearing my words, forgotten my order, changed my order halfway through ordering, then took a drink back to say it was the wrong one. I did none of this. She then went on to say that if I was not one of the bridesmaids I would have been kicked out. I ordered sex on the beach which the young bar lady did not know how to make but was happy to give it a go asking me what was in it. My first order was one of them and a CC and cola for my husband. My second drink about an hour later due to sorting out the bride and grooms son whom became unwell. The bride then brought me my second which I drank between making sure the children were ok, talking with guests, helping the bride, and getting the cake ready and out on the table. I then went and got my 3rd drink again about an hour later just before I got up to do my speech and the cake was cut. This drink I asked if a bit more crandberry juice could be add thanks. Then the dancing started. I then order another drink and continued to enjoy the event while still checking on the kids, making sure the bride, groom and guests were ok, and saying good bye to thoes that had to head off. At 10pm ish I was informed I was cut off I have to have water. I was not even tipsy I had had 1 drink about an hour which by law I could still have driven. The other thing that really frustrated me was from this point security was then brought round to keep an eye on us. I have my water and softdrink for the last hour and a half and tried to enjoy myself caz you don't need alcohol to do that. However the who ordeal just annoyed me. As we had to be out of the venue at 11.30 I started packing away the decision and things while the rest of the group continued to party to find 2 security offences now in the bar this was just so offensive. I know and understand the staff have the right to stop serving costumes but to lie about actions that never happened, this is...
Read moreI walked in today (Wednesday 18th Oct 2023) with my lady about 12.30pm as we thought it would be a great place too have lunch while we were down that way for the day. But following the events that took place on our arrival, I believe the Pensioners Association would be more than interested to hear from me over this incident, as it could be printed in the Pensioners booklet sent out to regularly to all the pensioneers. When we entered we stopped at the entrance inside, thinking someone would attend to us and direct us to a table. As no one came to us, we proceded to the buffet counter looking at the menu and waited for someone. I noticed a couple of tables were taken with patrons, but there were two tables vacant. A table on the wall for two and a table for two near the window. Still no one attended to us at the buffet counter. What I did notice a young lady, after we moved to the buffet ordering counter, who hadn't approach us . The young lady rather than come over to attend to us, went over to the two tables set for two people, and removed the bucket holding the cuterly from both tables and took them over to the counter. After that she still made no attempt to attend to us. So we looked at each other and decided to leave. There were two staff members in the bar counter who didn't signal to us to come over to them to order, and I mightadd they were busy. Your business has lost the sale of two meals along with bar drinks. We phone the business later to find out what was going on! and a lady on the your end told us the buffet counter was closed, and the orders for the menu were taken at the bar with the two working in that section. THERE WAS NO CARD OR NOTICE TO REFER TO THE BAR FOR ANY FOOD ORDERS ON THE BUFFET COUNTER. I suggest you organise a sign for the buffet counter, in order to direct patrons to the bar counter for their orders. But more importantly check your staff out, as it comes across one in particular doesn't want to work there, and obviously lacks in interpersonal skills. Even althoung I may had only been in shorts and thongs and shirt while we came down from the hills to the ocean, my money is as good as anyone...
