When staying over at Geordie Bay or in Longreach Bay on a boat mooring or in a RIB (Rottnest Island Board) accommodation unit, it is pretty much the only easy (close by) cafe/restaurant option. Fortuitously for this truly blessed group of holiday makers, the Geordie Bay Cafe do a great job. They have fantastic freshly prepared smoothies and coffee and fresh juice drinks as well as a well stocked cocktail bar. Their range of food is typical top notch Aussie cafe style. Given the location and the remoteness from the main settlement at Thompson's Bay I think they do an absolutely brilliant job and provide great service for lucky people staying in those simply fabulous bays on Rottnest Island (Wajemup) By the way, the general store/supermarket that is right next door also does a fantastic job, providing a carefully curated range of goods (necessities and luxuries), including a well stocked liquor shop, for all of those holiday makers staying over or just visiting those beautiful bays for the day. And to top it off, right next door to the supermarket, is a laundromat, with washing machines that work by tapping your card or phone on them. What more could a long term guest/boatie want. See you...
Read moreNot really the best dining experience. Food was not bad, but there were plenty of sea gulls every where trying to steal food from the table. I get that having birds around is part of being a cafe near the sea, especially in an island. That is not an issue. Quokkas are also every where which was amazing and fun, but what disappointed me was the front of house lady taking pictures of my family as the quokka ate food bits inadvertently dropped from our table due to the chaos the birds have caused trying to take food bits from our table. She was taking photos while saying out loud “I’m going to send this to the ranger.” Or something along that line. If there was any concern about us, it would have been best to have approached us nicely and told us about the incident. I approached one of the other front of house staff and told her my concern about her colleague taking photos, that if they had issues with us to let us know at that moment. She told me it was nothing to worry about. But I do not appreciate the taking of photos of my family with MINORS without asking for permission. It is...
Read moreThe Geordie Bay Cafe’s Vegan Banoffee Pie is the Island’s central attraction. Sure there’s beaches, snorkeling, quokkas and cycle rash, but their Vegan Bannoffee Pie is what brings me back to the Island every time.
It comes with a mousse made from some kind of voodoo of Aquafaba and joy. And an attractive display of sliced ‘nana which displays real artistic flair. The crust is nutty, crunchy and rich. It will be so deliciously rich that you won’t think you could possibly finish it. But you will. In fact you will scrape each crumb off the plate like some kind of maniacal seagull flock swarming over a chip. It is that good.
The mains menu could do with some more vegan options besides burger and salads, but they look good. I can’t wait for someone on the island to serve a decent Flat Oat (flat white with oat milk), they presently only offer non-dairies soy and almond. Time will tell which cafe wins this much coveted prize. Meanwhile though, their espresso is very good.
Also good that they’re off the main drag. They’re an island of joy, upon an island of (cough)...
