We’ve always had a thing for suburban Chinese restaurants—all the convenience of being local, none of the hassle of heading into town. So when Shi Wei popped up in Stirling, boasting Peking duck on the menu, it felt only right to give it a try and order as much as possible.

The restaurant is located in a commercial centre—unusual, but it works. The fit-out is modern, with some nice alfresco seating out front and back, and a young crew running the kitchen. Service was attentive, with a particular nod to the young chap who confirmed instructions with a snap of his fingers—confident, quirky, and somehow charming.

The food is a bit more nuanced to review. The duck, ordered late on a weeknight, sadly didn’t meet the standards one might expect just 10km south in Northbridge. It was a touch dry and wasn’t served as the traditional crispy skin slices, though it did arrive in a nostalgic old-school carry stack, which softened the blow.

We ordered a spread of classics: beef hor fun (干炒牛河), special fried rice, Cantonese fillet steak, eggplant hotpot (鱼香茄子), and garlic kai-lan. Every dish was generous in portion and protein. The fried rice could have used more wok hei, and the sauce on the fillet steak didn’t quite land. But the eggplant hotpot—unassuming and quietly brilliant—was easily one of the best we’ve had north of the river (yes, including Northbridge).

While scanning other reviews, I noticed someone had given a one-star rating purely because of the parking. Honestly—seriously? It’s clearly signposted. If you can’t find a spot out front, there’s a commercial centre carpark accessible via the next driveway after Stirling Village. Hardly a reason to knock the whole experience.

We’ll definitely be heading back to Shi Wei to revisit some of those standout dishes and explore more of the menu—maybe even give the roast duck a go next time, which looked like it might just rival some of the roasters...

Consistently Excellent – My Go-To Chinese Restaurant!**

I’ve been a regular customer since this restaurant opened, and not once has it failed to meet my expectations. The food is always delicious, with generous portions at reasonable prices. Whether it’s their flavourful stir-fries, spring rolls, or aromatic wonton soup or corn soup ( my favourite dishes are long beans and Peking Duck) , every dish is prepared with care and authenticity.

What truly sets this place apart is the outstanding service—fast, friendly, and attentive. The modern yet cozy decor adds to the dining experience, with comfortable seating that makes you want to stay longer. It’s rare to find a Chinese restaurant that excels in both food quality and ambiance, but this one does it effortlessly.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable, satisfying meal in a welcoming setting. I’ll definitely keep...

New restaurant opened in Stirling Village. Great to have a restaurant who opens for early diners. We went on second night of opening. The food was delicious. Servings were big as there was only 3 of us and we wanted to try a few different dishes we did have left overs to take home.

We had the wonton soup which was a perfect serving. The other mains that were my favourite were the stir fried fish with ginger and shallots and the vegetables were perfect.

The servings size are large to me and I can see this being a weekly drop in.

It is a new restaurant so give a bet of grace while they wait for their alcohol license, this does mean you can bring your own wine if...
