Exceptional! We will go out of our way to come here because of the quality of the food and the friendly, low-key but engaging and knowledgable service (it's relaxed and comfortable, great for families or after work, so possibly unsuitable for people who expect Silver Service, have their own butler, or who have an over-inflated sense of self-entitlement). This is simply good food. There are plenty of other Thai options that might be more convenient depending on where you are, but CB is the destination that makes extra travel a matter of anticipation rather than inconvenience. A caveat: if you ask for Thai hot, be prepared to get it - it may change your life (or at least the next three days). This includes the salads - don't be fooled by that nice, innocuous-sounding word that conjures images of cool lettuce and succulent tomato. Had a Thai-hot papaya salad on my birthday and wasn't quite prepared for the fireworks. Great flavours, but too much heat for this chili-amateur-weakling-fool! Warning! If you are a sensitive snowflake, have never been overseas, or, if you did, had a package deal that meant you were shielded and chaperoned away from Thai- (or Sri Lankan- or Mexican- or Indian-) street-food hotness, Beware! The chili-demon will dance on your soul as you writhe, calling out for mercy while slowly stewing in your own perspiration. Expect no sympathy. Expect no relief. Chef knows what they are doing, but do you? Contemptible are those whose ambition and false bravado blinds them to reason. Even 'hot' is pretty damn hot, so if in doubt, work your way up. For a chili-amateur like me, the 'mild' version is perfectly fine, because the subtle balance of spices and fresh ingredients make up for lack of heat. Hot gives you plenty of zap (just about the right balance of flavour and heat for mere mortals), while Thai hot saves you money on going to a sauna, as well as various other allied-health procedures. After several Thai-hot dishes, I came out the other end feeling cleansed (if not flagellated), thankful for the small things and glad to be alive. I don't think you can do any better on the Sunshine Coast, probably Queensland, and quite possibly The World if Thai street food is your aim. If nothing else, the above excited babble should tell you how enthused I am after three years of being priviledged to visit this low-key, suburban, home-style Fantasy-Taste-Palace-of-Wonderment!
Note: some dishes (fish) take time to prepare, so either call ahead to order, or enjoy a conversation with your dinner companion(s) while you wait ('a conversation'? I know, call me...

Read moreWe have eaten at CB Thai and ordered takeaway many times over the last 5 years. It was always delicious food. The last 3 times, both eating in and takeaway the food has been disappointing. Something has changed. Has ownership changed? The food is lacking flavour and substance. The vegetables are cut a bit too large. I always get vegetable thai fried rice which was always cooked to perfection with toasty flavours and unmistakably thai. The last 2 times its been bland and missing something. As part of our last takeaway we ordered 2 serves of roti. So disappointing. Barely enough for 2 people and it was soggy and no flavour. We also ordered medium heat with our 2 curries but one was extremely hot, the other mild. I don't think we will try again. So sad. It was the best thai around town. Update: We decided to try again a few months down the track. So disappointing. Again, thai fried rice was so bland and dry with large finger size chunks of carrot and a heap of beans and not much else. I asked for medium heat but there was so much red chilli through it I couldn't get past more than a few mouthfuls. My mouth was on fire. The roti was sad. The smallest, soggy pieces. Such a shame. We won't be...
