Good but not great, I feel it doesn’t deserve the hate train and barrage of 1 star reviews.
Ordered a double truffle and in all honesty it was a good well rounded burger. The smash patty was juicy and well seasoned patty, with burnt edges of a smash patty. There were hints of truffle mayo, not as noticeable of a truffle taste. The Swiss cheese was good and gooey, the sweetness of the caramelised onions came through and were the star but was overpowering and in honesty I forgot there was even bacon, it couldn’t be tasted it at all.
The bad, the chips weren’t great at all; was there seasoning? I don’t know, I saw it but I definitely couldn’t taste it. The cut and everything about the chips were so meh. Some of the flavours of the burger as stated weren’t noticeable (the bacon).
Impression, from reading the reviews I think this place use to be good however not sure if quality and service dropped due to COVID or declining sales and now they don’t have the funds or ability to maintain the as a eat in dinner and more catered towards Uber eats, which results in the poor reviews. I really hope that they are able to increase the quality, source better chips, slightly stronger flavours in the burgers would do wonders.
Construstive feedback I would suggest simply turn the lights on the fridge and push the cans forward to give the illusion of being full even if it’s not. Play some music even at low volume as the place was completely silent while I was here. Fix the menus as they are all old used and ratty, plus I could only find the burger menu and no sides? It’s super cheap just to get white or black paper printed menu from officeworks, they done need to be fancy just neat and clean. Why was there a long empty table with no stools? Just small changes in appearance and quality; things that shouldn’t cost much to implement will hopefully curb appeal and result in an increase of walk in people coming in.
I hope next time I come business is better and some changes in...
Read moreIt's ok, but not quite there.
We ordered the initiation with single Patty. It looked exactly like a burger should with melted cheese and generous beef patty in the middle. It was tomato sauce based with gherkins. The sesame seed bun look different from anything we have tried before .
It was a generous sized and had sliced onions but no green Leafs. As for the tastes, it was a little bit disappointing. The beef patty felt a little bit too tightly packed and was a little dry despite having the cheese and the tomato sauce around. It's not bad but not exactly mind blowing. The burger bun had a good texture. I would give this burger 4 out of 5.
The Truffle club had a much more interesting description. Smashed beef, Swiss cheese, crispy maple bacon, truffle mayo, caramelised onion, rocket, milk bun. From the description alone you would expect it to be more than the initiation. But unfortunately that was not the case.
As you can see from the photographs the burger actually looks smaller. There was no sign of the cheese, but I think what happened was the burnt bit at the bottom was that swiss cheese. I'm not sure that I found any bacon there. There was a very small thin strips that could have been the bacon but not something you could taste if not told.
As for the Truffle mayo, I really couldn't taste it at all. As mentioned there was a very burnt bit at the bottom so it could be the mayo was absorbed into the other ingredients and the burnt taste overrode it. I'm not really sure. The rocket was there as promised. Overall I was quite disappointed in this one. I would give it a 3 out of 5 or maybe 2.8.
Now I guess it is different from the other burger joints around so it's worth another try but maybe I would try a different burger.
Maybe these are designed to be in with milkshakes or...
Read moreI moved to Randwick back in September, and saw The Secret Burger Society on Eatclub. Honestly it is pretty expensive, hence I used to just eat there when there was a discount, but it is SO good that soon enough I was willing to swing by whenever I had a serious hankering. Always the same order - truffle club, double patty + fries. $26, but worth it.
I have NEVER eaten burgers as good as is served here, ever in my life. This includes having gone to places like Au Cheval in Chicago, which is very well-known for their burgers.
Of the I don't know how many times I've eaten here, the burgers have been pretty consistent. About 15% of the time the rating I'd give the burgers drop to about 9/10. Once it dropped down to about 8/10. Most of the time it is 11/10. I mean, more than once I have ordered a burger, eaten half of it, and immediately had to order a second one, KNOWING I'd be massively overfed. But it was just so good!
The bun is great, but that's not too rare. The patty however, is so amazing. Like so so amazing - juicy and seasoned great. Combined with the bacon and the truffle sauce, it's all perfect. The truffle sauce adds just the right amount of unique flavour to it, without being overpowering. That's why you can eat it over and over again, without feeling sick and tired of the flavour.
Every time I start heading there, I tell myself I am gonna try something new. But I have yet to tire of the truffle club. At all.
Right now as I write this review, two hours after the meal, I am still craving it. Even though my belly's about to burst....
