Oh, the indignity! To be summarily ejected from the hallowed halls of the Castle Hill RSL, not for genuine transgression, but for the unforgivable sin of… appearing to have enjoyed oneself. It seems the management of this establishment has mistaken a group of well-behaved, sober, and dare I say, mature patrons for a gaggle of rambunctious teenagers. The sheer audacity! My friends and I, all proudly navigating our seventh decade, sought a pleasant evening at the Castle Hill RSL – a place we once believed offered a welcoming retreat for the community. Instead, we were met with an almost farcical display of overzealous gatekeeping. Despite our clear sobriety and impeccable conduct, we were inexplicably targeted and accused of having "drunk too much." One can only assume the RSL's staff possesses some hitherto unknown x-ray vision capable of discerning inebriation invisible to the human eye, or perhaps they simply operate under the assumption that anyone over 60 enjoying themselves must, by default, be "too drunk." The experience was not merely frustrating; it was deeply insulting. To be treated with such suspicion and disrespect, after years of contributing to the very community the RSL purports to serve, is nothing short of a slap in the face. It seems the Castle Hill RSL has forgotten its roots, trading genuine hospitality for an almost puritanical fear of merriment, especially when it involves patrons who dare to have grey hair and a good time. Save your money, and more importantly, your dignity. There are countless other establishments in the Hills district that understand the meaning of genuine customer service and won't treat you like a delinquent simply for being over 60 and daring to enjoy a night out. The Castle Hill RSL, it seems, is no longer one of them. Their heavy-handed, unfounded eviction of sober, well-behaved seniors is a testament to their baffling priorities and a clear indication that they have lost touch with the very people they should be welcoming. A truly...
Read moreCourtyard Restaurant has seriously bad food
Never again will we dine at the Courtyard Restaurant, its food is basically inedible under the current management and ownership. We don’t expect fine dining or restaurant quality food at a club bistro but this has to be hands down the worst food we have ever had at a club bistro, and mind you it's called a restaurant. All the meals we ordered last Saturday night were really bad. The meals were served cold and the quality and taste of them was just appalling. As I don’t usually place reviews I rang the Courtyard Restaurant’s business owner as I felt it was important to provide feedback on being disappointed with the quality of food. I don't ever do this lightly but felt compelled in this instance, but it was a complete waste of time. Much to my surprise when I spoke to the business owner he was less than happy about my feedback and said he didn’t believe me and hang up on me, so very rude and unprofessional. Clearly he has no interest in customer satisfaction and in providing edible meals. Well I hope he sits down and actually eats some of the meals on his menu, ( in particular a few of the meals we had, ‘The Grilled Seafood Plate’ just alarmingly bad, ‘The Seafood Basket' uncooked batter, and even ‘The Chicken Parmigiana’ which is usually a fail-safe choice in any club or pub was dry and tough like cardboard just terrible), and if he thinks they are indeed edible then he must have extremely low standards. We like the club, so it’s a real shame and to the club’s detriment, if the CHRSL club management and board of directors don’t take more interest in the food quality being provided by the Courtyard Restaurant. The courtyard area of the club is nice and it's disappointing to have such poor quality food, a big downfall for the club in my view and needs to fixed as soon as possible to retain memberships. In the meantime members and visitors be warned do yourself a favour don’t dine at the...
Read moreHadn't been here for about 20 years. Loads of improvements to the layout, decor and facilities.... but the food and (some) service is woeful.
We joined family friends for an early dinner. The huge outdoor playground (climbing equipment) and video games arcade were great and certainly kept the kids entertained.
I had a pretty good cut of steak (500g New York cut) that was well cooked to medium rare, but that's where the positives end. The accompanying fries were powdery and the quantity of side sauce was stingy, as the same quantity is provided for a steak half the size.
My wife's lamb and halloumi salad included one slice of halloumi cheese and a tasteless dry skewer of what we assumed was lamb. The salad also had scant dressing and what was there had zero flavour/seasoning. Nowhere near good enough for $23. A food court Sumo salad for $13 is much tastier.
Another of our group suffered through the lamb souvlaki, which was equally as dry as my wife's skewer. It also came with an odd side sauce. We'd expect something like tzatziki to be served with this dish but what she got was some weird sweet, garlic laden mayonnaise/aioli thing that was actually quite revolting to eat.
We mostly received good (not great) service, but there was some decidedly average service from one particular staff member in the Courtyard Restaurant. While the staff at the sign-in desk were great and the girls that took our food order and the bar staff were good, the girl that gave us the kid's ice cream (free with the kid's meal) was dour.
We had to flag someone down to get served and he simply waved one of the other staff over. All we got was a "You get Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla". No "hi" or anything else. We provided our choices and she handed me the ice cream without saying a word before walking away. She definitely didn't want to be there.
Don't think...
