Summary: Great place to buy cakes, have coffee and have a basic lunch. I have returned numerous times for various reasons (coffee, lunch, celebratory cakes).
Food: The cakes and baked goods are fabulous. This is the reason most people come here (for birthday cakes and pastries). You will be impressed with the taste and quality. In terms of the lunch food, you can expect to find pies, sausage rolls, pasta of the day, sandwiches and panino's, smoothies, juices and coffee. Everything I have ever ordered has been fantastic and i have returned many times to eat. It tastes like home cooked food.
Prices: Moderate to average. You can expect to pay the usual prices for a cake, coffee, sandwich, pasta. The food is always good quality too. You will not have a problem with the pricing and you will not think it is expensive for what youâre getting.
Location: On Lyons Road so parking can be a hassle. There is parking underneath the establishment so you have to turn into the drive way and go down.
Atmosphere: Nice and simple, nothing to deter me. If you go on a weekend, expect to wait in a line to order. It can be a bit chaotic when it is busy so pay attention. the shop is quite small in comparison to the business on the weekend, but if you go during the weekdays then she shop is a perfect size. there is dining tables inside and outside, I like to dine inside (you will walk past the barista and toward the back) because it is nice. You order at the counter and then sit down and someone will bring your...
Read moreWould normally give a 5 star review. However, had a disappointing experience last Friday when I bought 3 plain meat pies to enjoy. Having the understanding that their meat pies are made using at least good quality meat with minced meat, not being offal, I tucked into one, then the second pie, only to come across a significantly sized piece of offal in the second pie. The chunk of offal, about 2.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm contained clearly obvious arterial pieces of organ about 3 to 4 mm diameter. Had clearly not been through the mincer, or was simply included in the batch of meat to be used in the pies. Yesterday, I returned the third pie and the chunk of artery to the shop and explained the matter to the duty manager That person assured me that this is the first time this has happened ....... I said I would pay much more for a pie if I was sure it was made only of quality meat and NO offal. To her credit, the duty manager thanked me for bringing this to her attention, explained her intention to follow up with the meat suppliers, and offered me 3 replacement pies. I look forward to being able to buy pies made WITHOUT any offal from The Bakehouse...
Read moreMy local go to for a great pie, nice breakfast, decent coffee or sweet treat. Plenty of seating inside & out, good range & plenty of staff to tick things over. Been around for a long time too, almost 30 years I think.
Sandwiches are made from scratch, on top quality bread/focaccia/wrap/roll with generous fillings & a create your own option which can please anyone. The range of cakes, biscuits, tarts & other sweet treats is super good - you couldnât not pick one & Iâve tried pretty much all of them!
But I go back regularly for the pies & other baked stuff. Pretty much tried everything & can highly recommend all pies; beef/mushroom, curry/beef, potato/beef, beef/cheese/bacon, beef/tomato/onion, plus the cheese/spinach roll is excellent.
Lots of staff, cheery service & has a loyal clientele. Canât go wrong if you...
