Good Fella Coffee is a super cool little coffee haunt located in Bella Vista. It’s the last place we’d expect to find such a a place such as this, in the midst of a Business Park, yet brewing up some mighty fine coffee. Good Fella would not look out of place in the inner suburbs of Sydney, they are all about quality, with all food made on site and using a range of quality beans for their coffee. The cafe is quite busy, with many young punters waiting out the front for their caffeine fix. The look and age of the clientele, complete with their hip outfits and laptops, reminded me of a uni hangout or a bunch of mates talking all things coffee. For the milk coffee and cold brew they use Single O, a top Sydney's top roaster, which is a bonus for the locals, meaning they do not have to travel to far to get a quality coffee. They also have guest roasters on rotation. This weekend they had Melbourne's Wood and Co Coffee Roasters with one from Ethiopia and Kenya. The baristas know how to make a quality cup. The latte and cappuccinos were nice and smooth, with beautiful latte art. They do have batch coffee, as well as mochas, matcha and chai latte. The interior of the cafe has an industrial feel, with cement floors and bench tops, with visible aircon units and plenty of wooden bench seating facing inwards to see the baristas in action. Good fella is emitting a bunch of good vibes through their friendly staff and a chilled cozy atmosphere to with some good tunes in the background. Their menu is limited in the sense that it doesn’t host much more than bagels, toasties, pizza by the slice and some other sweet treats like cookies and cakes. That said, the range of bagels is extensive. They focus on quality, with all bagels made house; boiled and baked and you can grab them plain, or with toppings. We got a few plain to go - rye, poppyseed, blueberry and plain. We also had a filled one in store, the “breaky” - filled with pastrami, scrambled egg, american cheese and russian dressing Being winter there’s a few new additions; the chicken soup and the amazing porridge; steel cut oats with tahini caramel, poached pear and red grapes. This was seriously tasty and super filling. Overall we were very impressed with this cafe and glad we made the trek out. We just wish it was...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place. TLDR - good food, very pricy, terrible system.
First of all the food is good. Bagels in Australia generally taste just like bread, which has been a big disappointment for me. But they make the texture right so good job on that part.
As a hospitality person I strongly disagree with how they handle orders and delivery, though. They don’t lead you to table, and they don’t give you a table number either. So when the food is ready it takes a long time to arrive as the staff took too long trying to figure out where the food is going. I’m genuinely shocked that they don’t have a better food delivery system in store, it seems very unprofessional. I watched the staff looking lost, taking laps and asking multiple customers if it’s their order - food is exposed to air and they talk over the food. It’s not hygienic nor efficient. All food items became cold and rubbery as staff spent so long sending them to tables.
Ordered blueberry bagel with cream cheese and loaded avo on rye bagel.
The blueberry bagel is missing the blueberry flavor so it basically tastes just like a plain bagel. It’s cool that they use house cream cheese but i could barely taste the cheese. It tastes like a whipped cream or ricotta to me. Again, great bagel texture, but only the texture.
Loaded avo was quite good. Except it was also completely cold by the time we received it. Lost the crispness as it took too long
Also ordered a small almond cold brew, it cost me 7.3 and portion was so small that it almost looks like a free sample in supermarkets. Take out the ice you get about 2 shots amount of coffee. Finished it in two sips that’s how small it is.
Out of curiosity and also thought about taking some bagels home, I asked the staff how much a bagel is, I was told 9 dollars. So I guess I’ll just bake at home lol.
I think for the price ppl are paying for, it’s totally worth investing on some table number holders for a...
Read moreI was searching Google for " Best coffee in Bella Vista " and this cafe kept popping up so thought I better give it a try for my TripAdvisor reviews so I headed down to BV found a convenient parking spot for Good Fella patrons and entered this beautifully fitted out little gem. Greeted with a G' day and gave my usual order of Strong Latte. A couple of minutes later it magically appeared on my timber table. I must say I had very high expectations given the numerous comments of " Amazing Coffee "' " Best coffee in Sydney " etc, etc, so I was really really hoping I would finally be satisfied with Hills Coffee. Before it touched my table I could immediately see it was definitely not going to be STRONG by the pale colour through the glass. 😞 The textured milk hadn't really been stretched enough and so I only had a few millimetres of merangue consistency head and I knew it really hadn't been done with a lot of love. Something lacking in these parts of Sydney, coffee made with love by people who are passionate about coffee and the art of making truly great coffee. Back to the coffee sorry.....Upon tasting the coffee I did notice a pleasant ' winey ' flavour albeit very very subtle. There was no WOW!! There was just an overall pleasantness about it, the same pleasantness you could find anywhere really, even at home with the right equipment. When I ask for STRONG, I really want to taste a mouthful of flavour followed by I nice kick to initiate a rapid heart rate . I do find this occasionally but only in places like DEUS in Camperdown and COSMO in Castle Hill but seldom anywhere else. The team at Good Fella certainly know their craft but they're keeping it all very beige for the masses I think which is a shame. Such a gorgeous industrial fit out but really just another 'pleasant ' coffee in just another cafe in The Hills. This cafe is not yet on...
