Hinataya — Restaurant in Sydney

The food was a solid 6/10 but it was very pricy for not very large portions, the quality also did not seem very high for the price.

There are many other Japanese food places that are much more casual but have better food, lower prices and/or bigger portions.

I had the Chicken Katsu Curry, it was fine but not as good as I was expecting for $23, and that's one of the less pricey items. Also there are some items where you actually pay more for bigger portions. Example: $6.50 for 2 pieces or $16.50 for 5 pieces. Also I had that, and it was pretty tasteless apart from the sauce, could not taste the salmon flavour at all.

Also one of the people I was eating with said two of their Vegetable Gyoza were stone cold in the middle. I didn't eat one myself but I assume they were telling the truth as they said the other 3 pieces were good. Also the Vegetable Gyoza costs like $15 for 5 or 6 pieces...

Ordered: Prawn Tempura Udon ⭐️4.5/5 The soup was flavorful and well-seasoned, while the prawn tempura tasted fresh and had a nice crunch. A comforting dish overall! Aburi Salmon Roll ⭐️5/5 This was absolutely delicious! The torched salmon (aburi) on the outside paired perfectly with the fresh salmon inside. Every bite was bursting with flavor, definitely a highlight of the meal and highly recommended! 🤩 Chicken Avo Mini Roll⭐️4/5 This one was decent but pretty standard, similar to a typical chicken avocado sushi roll. It was fresh but didn’t particularly stand out compared to the other dishes.

Overall Ratings: ⭐️5/5 for the food (especially the Aburi Salmon Roll!) ⭐️4/5 for the service (it could have been a bit more attentive). ⭐️5/5 for the cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Would definitely recommend this place, especially for their amazing Aburi...

Went for dinner and we were sorely disappointed. Food - small portions, extremely pricey, nothing to rave about. Each piece of raw fish was either extremely thin or extremely tiny. There was way more rice in the don then there was the topping. Not sure who sorted out the costing, but it needs to be relooked at because the price definitely does not reflect the quality or quantity of the dishes Customer service was ok. Not overly attentive, one girl was friendly, the other didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. I guess that’s all normal for a restaurant. The restaurant itself wasn’t anything special. It was a clean interior, many tables and seats, kept getting bumped by the waitresses so that was exciting. Overall, I would not recommend Hinataya.
