After discovering D’Penyetz & D’Cendol in Burwood, I visited Teras Java in Mascot hoping for a similarly exciting Indonesian meal. It had high Google ratings, but it turns out they attract them by giving away free Teh Kotak for on-the-spot Google reviews. You’ll find the indoor-outdoor space at the base of a residential tower in a windy canyon of similar-looking towers. Parking is limited, but there’s a Woolworths across the road with a carpark. With the wind making the exterior tables challenging, we retreated inside to the narrow interior that’s painted trompe l’oeil to look like you’re outdoors in rural Indonesia. Glued on shutters magnify the effect. Most tables are set down the restaurant-length brown banquette on the same painted wall. A well-photographed picture menu makes choosing easy. We try the benchmark beef rendang on the nasi pedang ($19.90) but find it’s acidic rather than creamy and hasn’t been cooked to the point the beef splits under pressure from a fork. It’s bested by a creamy yellow vegetable curry with its gravy poured over the rice. Fried chook is dried out from being cooked past crisp, but the sambal-topped egg balado were great punctuated with tannic cassava leaves. Tahu isi ($10/3) is Indonesia’s answer to the Chiko Roll: a big deep fried ball of carrot-stuffed tofu that needs sambal to be anything other than bland. Siomay Bandung ($15) drapes a collection of steamed chicken and fish dumplings, fried tofu and egg with a too-sweet peanut sauce. The es cendol ($9) is good and, alongside the es kelapa muda ($7) (young coconut milk) will put out the fire if you get too liberal with the tasty sambal raden (the second hottest sambal on offer here).

Teras Java Restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy traditional Indonesian dishes, especially the delicious nasi rames,,,, I recently visited this restaurant and I was truly impressed by the taste and quality of the food… 🥙🥗 The nasi rames at Teras Java Restaurant is very tasty and authentic…. This dish consists of white rice served with a variety of side dishes such as grilled chicken, balado eggs, and spicy sambal. All components of the nasi rames are well-balanced and appetizing!!!! Furthermore, the atmosphere at Teras Java Restaurant is very cozy and peaceful… 😇 With its unique decoration and friendly service, dining at this restaurant becomes even more enjoyable. The affordable prices are also a plus point of Teras Java Restaurant. With relatively affordable prices, you can enjoy delicious and satisfying dishes at this restaurant. Overall, I highly recommend Teras Java Restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy delicious and authentic nasi rames and indonesian food I will definitely come back to this restaurant to enjoy other traditional Indonesian dishes…. 🤤🤤

Yum! This is easily one of the best Indonesian restaurants in Mascot 🫶🏻 I’ve already been here about five times because I love their Nasi Timbel, Batagor, and Iga Bakar 😋😋 The Nasi Timbel is always perfectly prepared, with a great balance of rice, meats, and sides. The Batagor is crispy and full of flavor, making it an excellent appetizer. The Iga Bakar has incredibly tender meat that’s marinated to perfection. I’d definitely recommend this place to my friends, and I’ll be coming back for sure! Edited: Came back to try more of their menu. We tried the Soto Betawi, Sop Buntut, and Mie Ayam Jamur Komplit. The Soto Betawi was amazing, and the Sop Buntut was so rich and flavorful 😍. The Mie Ayam Jamur Komplit was good, but it didn’t quite suit my preference—I think I’d love it more if they used egg noodles! But overall, another fantastic experience at Teras Java 🤩🤩💯

New restaurant that we try out lastnight. Easy parking surrounding. I love that Teras Java has an automatic sliding door so its super handy for someone with pram, space just fit for everyone. About the dish, i order nasi timbel, it was tasty, if i am eating it baby free i might finish the whole dish no question😬 My husband ordered nasi iga bakar, he said was super delicious, and i tried it…its juicy, tasty, tender, we get all the Indonesian fragrances there, top nod for the sambal that coming with it to, it has jeruk purut in it, the favor absolutely bring us ‘home’. Else, my sister-brother has bakso malang and mie ayam, they say those were delicious too. My nephew got the bakso malang he said its. taste the same like the one in Yogyakarta. Overall, i feel like its not easy to get real taste of Indonesian food around even though many Indonesian restaurant out there eventually these days but Teras Java kind of nail its. Thank you for...
