Being the first day of spring you would imagine people being happy serving food and drinks, but not today. I understand it was busy but, really, you would also imagine taking a shift on Father's Day that you would know it would be busy so you would prepare yourself for the situation, right? Not today. I went to the bar upstairs and ordered our food. We wanted to get ahead of others as my sister had booked the Fig-tree Room for my nephew's party and there were going to be many other people ordering. Attitude: as there where no signs suggesting a surcharge to use my eftpos card, I cancelled and decided to pay with cash. The barperson was not happy. Anyhow, that being done, I later came back to order drinks and get some water. I asked if there was a "water station" and he must have remembered me and Mr Attitude said: : "Over there" as to suggest - can't you see it... ...I said: where? He gestured in a particular direction then showed me a "tap" that to me looked like a beer tap nozzle. I said: Oh, no signs? And he looked at me as if I was from Mars. Anyhow. What ever. I get it. It's a busy day. In the meantime, food starts arriving, everyone else is eating, drinking, having a great time but our food is nowhere to be seen. I go to the bar and ask: Excuse me, but can you tell me when our food will be arriving? Mr Attitude looked at me and said: I have no idea. You will have to go downstairs and ask them. I said: But I ordered my food here. He told me to go downstairs and ask - so I did. The busy people down at the bistro told my by order still had another 1/2 hour wait. The problem was that we ordered ahead of others but our food was coming last. I then requested for my order to be cancelled. Looks like the attitude is everywhere - upstairs and downstairs. Not a happy face in sight. Maybe it's just me - maybe I expect too much. Maybe I should NOT be expecting good customer service any more and maybe I should go with the flow. I don't know. But, if my sister books and pays for space, maybe Hunters Hill Hotel should hire people that are happy to be working there on a busy day. I get it - it's father's day and they were probably smashed... ...but, what's new? If you don't want to be there, don't take the shift. Say to your manager that you would rather be maybe with your dad instead. But, being Hunters Hill, perhaps my expectations were too high. Maybe we should have stayed home and not driven 89km from the Blue Mountains just to turn around and come home disappointed. Not happy at all that we made the trip - if my sister hadn't booked there - it looked so promising only to be let down by a few...
Read moreAte in a large group August 30 for dinner. Want to give a balanced review of our experience tonight. We were told the wine we ordered had sold out, but a check in the bar next door would have solved the problem, and that's where we went to purchase it after someone recommended we try that option. The meat (lamb, kid's steak) was mostly overcooked. We had to send the seafood pasta dish back as it had no fish, chilli or cheese in it as advertised. We realised most of the pippies were closed when it returned a second time so we sent it back and asked for it not to be included on the bill. The chercuterie plate was missing the pate but it was supplied when requested. One of the burgers was cold. Any eatery can have an off day, and we've all had them, but it's the way the management deal with it that can be the difference. The manager tonight (in attire suggesting a management role) was dismissive, obnoxious and obtuse. When dealing with a relatively simple request she blamed an old menu on the problem, didn't offer an apology for some obvious oversights and appeared less than concerned - apathetic in fact - that things hadn't finished well. The young waitstaff, on the other hand, was lovely, and had everything the manager didn't. She was sympathetic and accommodating, offering alternatives as well as her sincere apologies, and that made all the difference. She also agreed that the seafood pasta would not be on the bill. She was fantastic. The general layout of the hotel was good, bar areas and function areas really good and toilets in good nick. My recommendation: go for a drink, have a casual feed and you won't...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible. This venue has so much potential. Beautiful inside with lots of tables in the sun. That’s where it ends. The food is terrible quality at restaurant prices.
For $26 the schnitzel is average served with a tiny serve of chips and their version of a ‘salad’ which consists of a few lettuce leaves and 1/4 of a red onion. The gravy was a brown water which I exchanged for a mushroom sauce which was just as bad.
The bang bang chicken salad (also $26) was absolutely tasteless, lacking the soy and ginger flavor it actually states on the menu and what tasted like shredded woolworths chicken.
Usually packed on a Sunday I can see now why the place is empty.
The passive aggressive comments from a woman that works here just topped it all off.
We came in a large group and every single person has discussed that this place is not worth coming back to.
Update 3 hours later : 5 people including myself all feel ill with stomach cramps. All of us either ate the schnitzel or fish and chips....
