Nice little Japanese restaurant in the hidden Neutral Bay suburb. Located in the “Habitat” apartment complex, it is quite hard to find at first as it is in the far end corner at the back. Outdoor seating is available and also some tables can be arranged indoors too. Japanese manga/comics & magazines are also available to browse on the book racks. Friendly staff. The Japanese fried rice is well made with short-grain rice 👍and the chicken katsu is tasty as well. Even though the dining patron looks quiet, this place is also busy with the takeaway, hence the waiting can be a while. Parking is available for 1.5 hours during business hours as it is shared with Woolworths.

I’m a frequent customer, and happy to drive 20km to Neutral Bay just to have the food here ❤️ That should tell you how much I enjoy it. Update after covid lockdown, the price has gone up a bit, but they are still under $15/rice bowl (with the exception of unagi don and even that only costs you $16) I can’t complain. The food and seasoning are perfect. This is the best oyakodon, chicken teriyaki and chicken karaage I’ve ever had. I will be happy to pay even more if they offer premium/better rice option (the current rice is a bit dry but I am happy as their current price point is hard to beat)

Incredible food at incredible prices. If you're hankering for cooked Japanese meals (think complete bentos, katsu curry rice, ramen and more) , look no further than Kabocha. Generous portions, great variety (for bentos), quality and most of all, consistency make Kabocha my go to everytime I pop by Neutral Bay. Service is quick, attentive and polite as well (for those of you that care about this facet of casual dining). (Pictured: The Harasu Bento and Makunoichi Bento sets, both fish on rice with a variety of deep fried and braised side dishes and a serve of miso soup l.)

I usually only leave reviews for places that really impress me.

Walking in, I instantly felt like I’d stumbled into a hidden little spot down an alleyway in Japan. The open kitchen gave me confidence right away, and the warm greetings from the staff made me feel at home.

We ordered the pork katsu curry, dosa ramen, and chicken katsu don, and every dish was outstanding. The flavors were spot-on, the portions just right, and the prices very fair.

The dining area was spotless, which made me trust the place even more. I also noticed that most of the customers were Japanese, which says a lot about how good it is. I really hope nothing changes here—it’s the kind of restaurant I’ll definitely keep...
