WARNING !!!!! ATTENTION!!! If you go to this restaurant, you need to set a Reminder or Alarm to remind you to pay and of course you have to keep your receipt when you leave otherwise when you come back next time , they will assault you in front of everyone and refuse to serve you for your forgetfulness of $15 . This is my story! I am a regular customer and I have come there for lunch almost for 2 years . I just came back last night and they ( the chef's wife probably ) told me I haven't paid last time and the bill was $15 . I agreed to them I would pay today . Honestly, I have no idea that could have happened and I told them I remembered I have paid and kindly asked them if they were sure and checked the camera. In my memory, I paid them with$100 note ( cash ) .They said to me they already reported to the police for my fault and refused to serve me and asked me to leave . The owner came out and insisted asking me to leave without listening to what I had to say. They were acting like : " we are always busy, without you ... it is not gonna hurt " . I felt so humiliating. I told them I just forgot if it actually happened . Why did they make it out of a big deal . His wife also said to me : " you have never forgotten but that time you forgot " earlier . They meant I did that on purpose! Such a logical comment !!!! They also told me in front of everyone ( the restaurant was quite full ) when their staff came out I was disappeared ! I always came with a baby and a pram. Their door is very small with steps ! Such an easy disappearance I guess. I felt so assaulted and shocked by their words and action then burned into tear . In my opinion, customers are sometimes forgetting things and it is also the staffs ' responsibility to remind them too . I am sure they haven't reported to the police because the police 's role is to keep peace not to decide who has paid or not unless they got evidence or whatsoever. Anyway, police have no time for this ...but for saying things like that it was just so humiliating! Now I don't even know whether they accused me for sth I have done or not have... What is in their mind those people! Would never never come back here ever !
Have to say their employees are always very nice and respectful except for the arrogant chef ( owner ) and his wife . They are not nice people !!! I live in the area and used to be a regular customer.
Ps : My friend who is a Thai restaurant owner , he couldn't believe about Komaru owner and staff ' actions. He told me his customers come for lunch and forgetting to pay and their staffs always have to run after ; this happens everyday . Especially during lunch time, everyone is...
Read moreUndoubtedly my favorite Japanese place! I love everything they do, always very attentive, every detail is well thought and carefully prepared.
Best and freshest sushi, amazing flavors, extensive and unique menu.. it was my go to place for a quick dinner when I lived in Cremorne, either by myself or nice to share with a friend. Place is very cozy and it’s perfect just for that. However I often see a big family or big group booking a table and still having a great time. They are always accommodating to me even when they have reservations when I’m eager for a quick dinner and can finish before the reservation’s time.
Hostess and the head chef are always super friendly and their Japanese greetings add just that extra Japanese touch.
If I was to name my favorites.. the list is very long! Oysters are amazing, ara daikon ( bony but the flavor is just divine ), komaru chirashi, marinated mackerel sushi, fresh tuna rolls, slow cooked baby octopus with taro potato and the list goes on .. tonight I tried their dinner box! The best bento box I’ve ever...
Read moreOne of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to outside of Japan. Genuinely one of the best, coziest, and most delightful restaurants in all of Sydney. It’s quite small and unassuming, with the loveliest lone server, but the chef takes such extreme care with every dish; it feels like they’re all being home cooked with just you in mind, though he also possesses plenty of technical excellence. Their sushi is some of the best I’ve had, full stop. And the specials that are so carefully crafted, changing often to showcase the best ingredients available at any particular time, are a mellifluous ode to whichever is chosen. It may sound like I’m being overly lavish with praise, but I promise you, if you try out Komaru it will be one of the best food experiences you can get in Sydney, and all for an extraordinarily reasonable price. If Komaru was at all closer to where I live I would probably eat there every day, or at least several...
