I've only been here a couple of times, the most recent occasion being yesterday for Saturday brunch. My aunt ordered the avocado on sour dough with tea, and I ordered the scones with a latte. Coffee was great. My aunt said her avocado on sour dough was nice. The scones experience, though 🤔 was disappointing. They were large, which was really great but dry, and my biggest issue was that the scones came with no more than 2 teaspoons of jam & and an equal amount of cream. After eventually flagging down a staff member as they were busy starting to pack furniture up around us, and as I finished the first scone, I asked for more jam and cream (as it was well needed with the scone being so large as well as dry), I was then promptly told it's $2.50 more for the additional jam & cream, another 2 teaspoons?!. I said yes thats fine as i really wanted to finish my meal having been hungry. Then, as the staff member left, I wondered if they were serious, they would give you 2 giant scones that are dry, and they can not simply supply the right amount of condiment to go with it?!, I suggest not serving scones if you can not get the basics right. This was a chance for this place to redeem itself from my last experience, which was not great for other reasons, but it held up to my previous thoughts on it. It's not my cafe of choice in Penrith as I don't like leaving disappointed. But honestly, I have not seen much that impressed. I'm sure most people need to get the extra condiments with the scones because they are under-served if that is the norm. Not many Penrith cafes do great scones.. As for returning here, I'm not sure at this stage if i would try again. It's been 3 times for me now, and not once have i walked away thinking that was great, I will be back. When you order a meal, you don't expect that you will be paying extra to finish the meal. That's a thumbs down from me. Maybe do better in that respect.. Scones should be done really well, as they are simple, but they can be really impressive. Maybe try and impress, because the atmosphere is actually quite nice, well it is before the staff ignore you to pack up.. In the afternoons, staff might want to check in with patrons as they pack around them, it would be a nice touch, otherwise it just gives you the feeling that you should leave, finished or not. It's gives an overall "you are no longer welcome" vibe. Whether you have finished your meal or not. It was only 2.30 pm. I get that you have a close time, but making people feel...
Read moreWow, this place is crazy good. I've eaten here at least once a week for the last 6 months, more if I have time off work.
Between my gf and I, we have tried every item on the menu, food and beverage, it's always perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
The eggs Benedict with lamb is a perfect combination of goodness, the hollandaise sauce is so smooth textured and taste perfect and creamy, the egg is always cooked to perfection and explodes its gooey goodness all over the lamb just making it blend together with the hollandaise.
The summer granola - my god what a delight, we order this everytime we come here as a side pretty much ( it's a main ) but amazing, the maple syrup dont forget to use this, it really makes the dish. The raspberry sorbet is out of this world. I'm actually curious where this comes from if its home made or bought in. It's truly out of this world. The fruit is and yogurt / cream is always fresh! Absalutely brilliant.
The homemade scones are served warm and soft they just melt in the mouth and crumble in equal parts just as a good scone should, I admit I am bias as I am british but yes! Served also with cream and jam, simply exquisite.
The breakfast burger - grab this with the extra beef patty for that hit that satisfies the hunger, any good tradie with love smashing down one of these in the morning before work ( they open at 7 ).
The fries - served with herb topping, the blend of crunch of soft is perfection, they're just bloody chips for god sake... and my god they are amazing.
I could go through the entire menu here but I'm guessing people have stopped reading by now, I couldn't not as t least throw in some of the highlights here though, this place is purely amazing. The best place in western Sydney to eat breakfast and lunch.
There is a negative with percy Plunkett however.... THEY DONT DO DINNER! meaning I can only eat 2 meals here per day, and that is just not enough!
Ps. The raspberry and lime homemade soda! Seriously just try it.
One more thing to add, the service here, 2nd to none, I always feel welcomed when I come, the staff always greet with a smile and remember you if you've been a few times before. Truly, thank you for your service and...
Read more(3.5 stars) Housed in an 1866 cottage, from the street, Percy Plunkett looks quaint and historical behind its white picket fence. It’s named for one of the cottage’s former occupants, who resided on the site for more than twenty years from 1921. Mr. Plunkett’s 1946 obituary in the Wagga Wagga Daily Advertiser heralded him as “one of Penrith’s most popular citizens” celebrating his community-minded contributions from being part of the mounted Police to being a hotel licensee.
Now in the hands of local foodie, Phillip Hallani, the café builds upon the idea of localism both in the Matt Woods (Killing Matt Woods) fit-out, the tradies who worked on it, the staff they employ and the products they use. Inside, the once-neglected heritage-listed cottage has been opened up by converting the rabbit warren of dark and small rooms into a soft grey series of light-filled spaces befitting a contemporary café; with modern lights being the only signature Woods touch. It was rammed on the day I dined, because high winds had driven everyone inside, away from their beautiful outdoor seating. This is a bummer because, being located within the car park of Nepean Village, a busy shopping centre, it’s teaming with screaming kids.
Staff do their best to be warm and welcoming, and I’m quickly buried within a quite good locally roasted (Parramatta) MotherSky Latte ($3.80) in a reasonable time when you consider the crowds. Menu changes are happily accommodated with my dining companion’s gluten-free Percy’s Plate ($23) losing the lamb sausages at her request. It’s a simply arranged collection of blistered tomatoes presented on the vine, golden fried haloumi, poached eggs and sliced avocado with tomato relish.
House-made condiments are also a standout on my overstuffed Moreton Bay Bug Tempura Tacos ($22). Pineapple chutney suits the crisp, flaky white crustaceans, pickled Asian-inspired salad, chilli salt and sesame dressing. Bar for the influx of young mums and their offspring and the historic architectural bones, Percy Plunkett has all the trappings of an...
