Just Wow!
I recently stopped by Phoodle for lunch and had an incredible experience.
Over the past six months, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Bun Bo Hue—a spicy beef and pork noodle soup. This dish has led me to discover the mighty power of chili in all its depth and flavor.
I’ve tried this dish at various Vietnamese restaurants across Sydney, and while I’ve never been disappointed, Phoodle truly takes the cake.
From the moment I walked in, the dining experience was on another level. The interior design and shop fit-out set the tone for what I knew would be one of the best-tasting meals I’d had.
The staff were fantastic—friendly and efficient. One standout feature of the restaurant was its self-service bar, where diners could help themselves to a variety of sauces, chili oils, fresh chili, water, and cutlery. This was a game-changer for me! At other restaurants, I often have to request extra chili multiple times, sometimes feeling like a nuisance to the staff. As an Australian-looking customer, I sometimes feel there’s a stereotype that Australians don’t enjoy spicy food, but that’s definitely not the case for me!
The noodles in the dish were also a pleasant surprise. They had a firm bite, which made them more enjoyable compared to some other places where they tend to be too soft.
Overall, the spicy noodle soup was so good that I inhaled it before I even had the chance to take a photo!
I genuinely hope Phoodle opens more branches around Sydney so I can become a regular customer.

Read moreHad the seafood laksa. The soup was delicious but the seafood was not fresh. The prawns had a gummy texture and did not taste or smell very good. My partner had the chicken laksa and again, the soup was good but the chicken didn’t seem fresh. Even in the soup, the chicken was very dry. The Vietnamese iced coffee didn’t even use an espresso shot. They used instant coffee and you could taste it. If you want phoodle, go to the store on Anzac parade. The food is fresher and they make their Vietnamese iced coffees properly.
EDIT: My partner and I returned, hoping the pho and grilled meat would be better. We were sorely mistaken. The noodles in the pho were very short as if they had gathered the small broken noodle bits from the bottom of every bag to make the dish. And of course, as explained in my first review, the Vietnamese iced coffee leaves much to be desired. Still instant coffee and they do nothing to hide it. I could make the ice coffee they sell here for less than $2 at home. But they charge an...
Read moreNot Vietnamese. Vermecelli salad wasn't vermicelli - was egg noodles and HOT??? Not a herb to be seen. When I asked about this, they said they don't put herbs in the salad??? We had lemongrass chicken...really not good. Asked for Nuoc Cham...Nope - not that either. Asked front staff if there were any Vietnamese working out the back that could make some. They showed me a version of...so sweet...nothing like. Spent $72. Had chicken and sticky rice (only decent meal...chicken was succulent). Vietnamese pancake - as I love rolling and dipping in to Nuoc Cham (didn't realise they didn't have any) didn't come with lettuce to roll in...had to ask. Staff were friendly and offered chicken instead of pork as we don't eat pork....don't expect bean sprouts or herbs. Rice paper rolls not good at all. Will not go again. Staff were friendly. However, table dirty and had to ask to clean and worst Vietnamese meal I've ever had. As I've said before, would not go ever again....
