The Good Filo could easily be described as the “Great Filo”, the “Amazing Filo” or just precede Filo with any positive adjective and the naming would be appropriate. This newly opened café/ bakery on Rocky Point Road in Ramsgate, selling Greek pastries and home cooked food is a great addition to the café scene. Owner Aki Daikos has been in the industry for many years and this new venture was to bring Greek pastry delights to Sydney. Paying tribute to Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, their food is reflective of this city. In an area that is home to a large Greek population, to get their wave of approval is a telling sign. The café was pumping when we visited, with customers lining up to eat in, and takeaway.

An open shop frontage with a number of tables, a Greek mural and a service counter to admire the “Zaharoplastio” (or patisserie goods), “Spitika” (home cooked foods) and “Zimi”(deli foods). There were so many amazing goodies, it was hard to decide what to order. We got a number of savoury and sweet dishes to share. We began with a few drinks, trying the famous “freddo”, a Greek version of an iced coffee, they serve many different varieties. I knew I wanted a shake and Aki suggested the Baklava, and I am so glad he did. This is one of my favourite drinks of 2018. A milkshake filled with bits of baklava had the perfect level of sweetness and I’ll certainly revisit for another one (or two of these).

The Greek pastries at Good Filo are ridiculously good, the pastry perfected is crisp and flaky. A must order is the traditional spanikopitaka or Greek savoury spinach pie, filled with spinach, feta cheese, scallions and egg. This was a large serving and would be great to share, although you could devour it yourselves quite easily, it is very moreish.

It was breakfast, so we couldn’t go past the egg and bacon boats or Peynerli, this is dough topped with egg, cheese and bacon, as well as what I described as the “Greek sausage roll”, the “Loukanopita” is their take on the traditional Aussie Sausage Roll! With a kransky tucked inside that dreamy pastry.

We order the bougasta – a pastry filled with semolina custard, some chocolate profiteroles, loukoumis brioche donuts as the beginning to our array of sweets.

The traditional Ekmek katafi is truly food of they gods, this dessert with a base of syrupy angel hair type pastry, topped with creamy custard, fresh cream and almonds, was a winner on the day.

The Trigona Panoramatos, although not easy to pronounce, was certainly easy eat. A crispy golden buttery filo pastry triangle soaked in syrup and filled with a creamy custard. Named after the place that overlooks Thessaloniki, we can imagine what it would be like to eat these in their hometown.

From lunch time, Greek home cooked meals are available, like moussaka and pastitsio. We’ll have to revisit to try these.

If you’re a fan of Greek pastries, you must plan a visit to Good Filo. There’s more than just galaktoboureko spanakopita (although they’re pretty good too). The galaktoboureko croissant, as well as the Tsoureki also look insane.

Not only good food, the famous Greek hospitality is also evident and you definitely will not leave hungry. Staff, including Aki warmly welcome diners and offer...

What a let down. Went to see what all the fuss was about and waited more then 30 minutes in the cue with the ridiculous heat and no updates. Noticing they had sat down a couple of tables that had come after us I started to complain. At this point they were denying this had occurred only to be backed up by another couple. To make it worse, when we complained the service was worse and I could not believe that is how people speak to their customers. (We should have left at this point) Finally when we sat down- what a mess inside. The music was too loud, you could not hear absolutely anyone. I tried to order and asked the girl at the counter if she had a menu because their one drinks board was too small only to be told no and she left it at that. You could barely see the food on diaplay due to the overcrowding of people hoarding at the front counter. There was one air conditioning operating and given the heat who even knew if it was working properly. There was no control over the tables, who knows how long people were in there or what was happening- no wonder people were waiting ridiculously long. Thankfully after waiting so long the only positive was that the food did come out quick even although it was average. Overall was an extremely...

06/11 your response reflects your unwillingness to accept constructive criticism and it further reflects your character when implying that i would be dishonest about our experience. Your attitude is consistent with your service.

When this place opened six years ago, it was serving authentic spanakopita made with wholesome ingredients. Once the original owner sold it, it begun declining. They stopped rolling their own pastry for the spanakopita and changed to packaged pastry. It was again sold to the current owners who again cut corners further and now we end up with a spanakopita that looks and tastes like something from the supermarket. In fact, the supermarket brand tastes much better. The service has also declined with the barista, which i think is the owners daughter, making terrible coffee and so rude to boot. She served up a stale piece of banana bread to a friend that i was there with and when he questioned it she said, ‘you’ll get what your given’. I certainly wont be going...

That is not a spanakopita. I regret stopping here when hungry cause i ended up eating nearly all of it and felt sick. This was paste of flour and god knows what else , i kept crunching sand throughout it too. The pastry is the cheapest frozen premade pastry and the fact it cost over 9$ was the cherry on top! I could’ve gotten a better spinach roll at the petrol station. Take this off the menu its disgusting Edit: your response is ridiculous and proof of why your business is not doing well. Keep replying the way you do to make it worse. If you’re that delusional, look at my usual reviews on places. I am not an unfair person and don’t review bad unless IT IS bad. As for the ‘usual customers’ who you claim love your food, all i see is bad reviews. The only good reviews are from when it was operated by the previous owners. Take some accountability and change, or close the shop down. I would be embarrassed if I were you.

This large, spacious cafe is vibrant & full of life. Most of the time it feels like a party in Mykonos with Greek music, lots of happy customers enjoying themselves & helpful staff that offer efficient service. There is a beautiful display of traditional Greek & non traditional sweets and desserts as well as a cabinet of savouries. The traditional Greek sweets are amazing - galaktoboureko, melomakarana & the orange polenta cake in particular. The kataifi cups comes in various flavours - quite sweet but the hazelnut number is reminiscent of nutella. The other cakes are also delicious especially the pretty fruit tarts. The spanakopita has a beautiful golden crisp pastry and the coffees are excellent. Every customer young and old look happy here & having a good time!
