Just had the weirdest experience amongst an unblemished record of wonderful service. Entered at 4pm on a Sunday and was immediately pressured to sit at another table from one reserved at 5:45. Without asking about our visit intentions the staff told us that food would take at least 40 minutes and we would have to leave before the time on the reservation card.
We keep saying we understood as we were there only for a quick drink. The Manager then set upon us with the same spiel and constantly repeating herself.
I tried continuously to reassure her that I understood because she had told us four or five times. She told us we had to ask the permission of the family sitting at the other end of the three long tables they had joined together. She also went into a long spiel about staff being abused when they asked people to leave come reservation time. There was literally nothing I could say that would calm this manager down.
We are locals who frequent the Peakhurst often so it really was truely bizarre to be on the end of such an experience.
All we wanted was to have a beer and be in a position to watch over the kids in the play area. We would have explained this if asked but literally would not be listened too.
Kitchen, if you are reading this. I hope you don't feel thrown under the bus on the forty minute wait times with little crowd on a Sunday, but I wasn't the one who pushed you. To the kitchens credit, the people on the other end of the table received five meals after 20 mins...not the forty we were told.
Somebody please teach this manager to chill.
EDIT: 28th Aug.
So glad this passive aggressive response addressing absolutely none of the issues raised, is still here for the public to see. If you are trying to deflect criticism by implying it's all in your customer's head then may I suggest learning not to make it too obvious (or public). Would not be surprised if this was written by the same person referred to in the review. Still awaiting response to my email. Not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Peakhurst looks unassuming from the front but the rear uncovers a lovely, modern, inviting space with various areas to accommodate most groups. Except us it seems. We booked well ahead for 13 people only to be seated in an area that was impossible to accommodate 13 people. But hey, this happens so I called the manager who never introduced herself and was the most infuriating person I've met and unnecessarily added to the frustration and blew things up.
Instead of an acknowledgement, I was met with "this space is planned for 13 people." I asked her to show me where people should sit only to be repeated the same sentence. BTW, the 13th person had no access to the tables! Anyway this went on for ages with every response being we've had 13 and so on but ZERO attempt to show me how they could possibly sit. She also made many ridiculous statements which I won't bore you with but suffice to say the experience was awful and upset everyone. Finally they found a solution and moved us but without any apology and she just walked away.
Apart from this food was hit and miss. The steaks were overcooked with mediums being borderline well done. Chicken burger and lamb souvlaki were good. Prawn salads were uniformly disliked. Service from the gentleman at the food pass was amazingly good. He was super efficient and when my daughter dropped her burger walking down the stairs he jumped to it and made her feel ok and replaced it. Great stuff and maybe he should be the pub's manager because he seems to understand service.
I came once for lunch and it was great so I brought my family on Sunday for lunch. It was very busy and food suffered as did their ability to accommodate and deal with their errors. It's a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been dining here for Mother's Day for the last 3 yrs . We have seen everything about this venue decline each year . Even down to the decorations at the door that lots of people use for Mother's Day photos ( including us ) - there used to be a wonderful display of flowers but this year was a pathetic couple of flowers . Despite booking - our table wasn't ready we were told to go to the sports bar and wait for about 10 mins then come back ( ie no one came to get us to tell us table was ready or where to go ) We waited 40 mins for food ( at the 20min mark we were told 6 more mins - it was 20 more minutes ) Then the so called 'naked ' chicken wings were cooked in a sauce that was so hot that it was barely edible instead of having the advertised sauce on the side - this had to be returned twice to get the advertised sauce. But the worst was my daughter who has severe intolerance to Gluten and Dairy ordered a GF pizza with no cheese . It was delivered to her with Parmasen on it - she took it back for them to make a new Pizza and they called her to pick it up in a few minutes . She could see the remnants of the cheese that had just been brushed off . People have to realise that although intolerance to certain foods isn't an anaphalactic reaction it can still make people very sick . We don't pay to eat out to get sick . Then I left the table for a few minutes ( everyone else was still at the table ) and staff decided to clear our table despite all the empty tables that needed clearing and took my leftovers in the take - away container . None of our glasses / bottles were cleared for our entire visit and bar staff were standing around chatting to each other. We...
