Racism at its worst. Unfortunately I have terminal cancer and this probably was my partners and my last holiday together. Our whole trip to Tasmania was wonderful but it’s disappointing we had to experience this situation on our last day. It really left a bad taste.
My partner is South Korean but has lived in Australia for over 10 years. As soon as we entered the cafe there was a group of ‘regulars’ (4 senior ladies) sitting down who obviously frequented the cafe a lot. When we entered I realised we were part of an ‘in joke’ with the manager and staff on duty. Yelling out the ladies and and the staff said ‘have you got any Thai pies?!’ I love Thai pies, how about fried rice? Or dim sims? This went on for about 3 minutes out loud back and forth with the staff and regulars. I got out of my chair and sat opposite them and starred at them. They stopped immediately and couldn’t look me in the eye.
My partner went back and asked if it was there ‘in’ joke. Again the ladies all had their heads down, gutless. The manager was skirmish in her response. This type of racism is the worst. Indirect racism.
My partner and I are very respectful considerate people. The type who will always return our own dishes and wipe the table for the staff. We have spent our life being respectful to everyone regardless of race, age, etc. This makes the experience so much more disappointing.

Read moreWe visited this café after seeing it listed as open on Google Maps. Although there was a “closed” sign on the door, we politely stepped in to double-check, as there were still customers seated and dining. The woman at the counter/the owner replied sharply: “We’re closed, as my door sign clearly says.”
Feeling uncomfortable with her unnecessarily disrespectful tone, I returned briefly, to calmly explain that we were only checking due to the mixed signals, while my family waited outside
Instead of acknowledging the confusion, she became even more dismissive, saying: “I’m the owner, I can close whenever I want, regardless of what Google says,” and then: “You are excused from my café. Leave. I’m not selling you food.” She even called me “hangry” and accused me of being “rude” and “a bully.” A man also came out from the kitchen and joined her, rudely telling me to leave.
As a professional family visiting from Sydney, we were shocked by the hostility over a simple, polite question. Even my 11-year-old later asked if the way we were treated might have been racist. We left feeling deeply disrespected and unwelcome. One of the most unpleasant customer experiences we’ve ever had and one we would not want others...
Read more3 of us had breakfast today, 2 big breakfasts and one eggs Benedict. We all had coffee as well the coffee was nice and hot. But it would be nice if they came together surely someone can make 3 coffees at the same time.I had the eggs benedict, it was ok, it would have been better if it was hot. I nearly finished my breakfast brfore the another breakfast came out, then a few minutes longer the 3rd breakfast came out. Once again these breakfasts were only just warm, the tomato was hot, the hashbrown was so hard it was hard to bite, the eggs were hard not soft yolks, the bacon was neatly cold, and omg so chewy. Im sorry to have to write this but it was 70 odd dollars, service was good, friendly and polite, coffee was great, its a shame about the food. We just moved to sheffield and have been trying to support our local buisnesses. But i dont think we would order...
