We went to the Pantry which was our first choice as we parked car near it & thought it looked nice from outside. Unfortunately after getting a table and queuing up, we got told no lunch available apart from coffee and cakes. We were so hungry but we wandered why no lunch available as it was just around 1 or 1.30pm?? Anyway, we came out, walked abit and found Renaessance which was open, we walked in, we were greeted by a young girl who was super welcoming and friendly, she proactively helped us find a table in the back room which extended to the beach which was filled with fresh air, sunlit and beautiful! She was very helpful and smiley the whole time, we felt we were in a place we really enjoyed. The food was super fresh and tasty, Henry ginger beer from Penguin was delicious - we sat at table 6, by the big open window, we loved the music and our chat at the same time... Upon our departure, the lovely owner came and checked on us about our food, we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her - we shared so many topics, including love and support from community, how we run our businesses (as I own 1 in SA as well), etc. It was a great choice, and if I come again I would love to try the salmon bagel (unfortunately it was unavailable today). By the way, the charity shop next door was beautifully done, humble prices and friendly lady working there, lots of goodies worth having a look. So, pls come for both this cafe and the opshop in this town...
Read moreLocated on Main Road, to the east of the beachfront shopping strip. It is a small narrow cafe, which stretches down to the railway line at the rear, with views out over the ocean.
Generally open from 8:30am until 2:30pm, later opening and closing times on weekends. There is a glass conservatory area at the back, which shields you from the window but is filled with light. There is also an option of eating in the outside dining area at the back.
The staff sent us to indoor area at the back of the cafe and told us they’d be right with us. Over 15mins later we decided the only way to order was to go to the front counter. It was hardly that busy but the staff seemed in their own little world, catching up on the local gossip. The menu is fairly limited / all day breakfasts (mainly toast/bread) and all day lunch (mainly toasted sandwiches), good range of coffees and teas. Food was relatively pricey for a toasted sandwich - $15, so was expecting something amazing. The toasties were nice but relatively pedestrian.
For a light lunch around $50 for two I was hoping for something better or for what we got cheaper. Will be searching for somewhere else in...
Read moreOn walking in I was told to take a seat and they’d come and take my order, I waited 20mins watching other people order at the counter. So I went to counter and ordered. My food arrived while eating it I began choking on a chicken bone that was left in the chopped chicken of my food. I complained, she gave me my money back for the flat wrap $12:00 but kept the money for the coffee and cake. On the way out I commented on it tasting nice and her response was, ‘it’s a good thing you didn’t choke because you’d be in the Hozzy now’ .! I turned looked at her thinking, good for you, because we’d be seeing each other in court if that was the case.
The proprietor is Very rude and unprofessional in her attitude and care of her customers.
If you go to this café I recommend you watch out for...
