I recommend a visit to the town of Penguin. I stopped there twice on a recent trip, once on either end, it's in a convenient place for driving to Devonport. It's a beautiful place for a snack, a walk and some photos.
There is a really nice cafe, Penguin Country Bakehouse, a supermarket if you want to stock up before moving on and a very helpful Visitor Information Centre.
This is a town that takes it's theme and runs with it. There are penguins everywhere. On the bins, holding the litter bags and decorating stores. But The Big Penguin is the highlight and landmark of the town he's a perfect photo opportunity. Certain times of the year he's dressed up for celebrations.
