Food was ok,most staff were fine. Head waitress was a crazy unpleasant control freak! We arrived in a group of 12, I moved 3 tables which were all along a wall together, so we could all sit together. What a crime! She raced over - how dare we move the tables, these tables are for customers ! (What are we, aliens from Mars?!). I said we are customers, what’s the problem? Oh, it’s an access issue (ridiculous, the tables were all along a wall with no chance of restricting access to any other table). So we all had a laugh at the insanity, shrugged our shoulders and sat at separate tables. Next control-freakery - said she wouldn’t take the order from one of our party unless she stood precisely on the cross she had taped to the floor in front of the register. Crazy! Still, life’s made of these funny experiences and weird people.m (Now responding to the response: The tables she directed us to had “reserved” signs on them (hence why we didn’t touch those) and again only sat 6 people, and when we said “can we move those together?” She said no! We didn’t “bash” any tables against walls. We moved 3 tables together. We were sitting against the wall to fit everyone all on sides of the table, so why would we be “bashing” them against the wall. Even crazier it seems! See photo proving she’s not only crazy, but now a dishonest liar.)

This is a the gift shop and cafe setup at the Mount Fields NP Visitor Centre. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm daily. The shop focuses more on art, books and nice souvenirs compared to your typical visitor centre gift shop. The cafe has a fair amount of indoor and outdoor seating and offer a range of savoury and sweet food items, typical of coffee shop and cafes around Tasmania. We had a pretty good slice of carrot cake and Long Black coffee after hiking a couple of the trails that start at the visitor centre. Prices are reasonable, service just fine. Both the cake and coffee tasted just fine. It is a convenient spot for a light bite or drink as part of your visit to the National Park.

My experience here wasn't pleasant. Waiting time was 45 mins while we'd been told it would be 25-35 mins. When we came in we were seated inside as all the tables outside were occupied. After 30 mins of waiting we asked if we can move outside as some people leaved. But we were said it would confuse a cook if we change a table. So we stayed inside. The food was very average and overpriced. It kind of makes sense when you don't have any alternatives in 5 kms radius. I can't say it was a total disappointment but next time I would rather drive for 15 mins and have a lunch somewhere else. It sucks to waste so much of time when there are many things to see. Cheers, Irina

Rude staff and overpriced. Comment on owner reply below: When I ordered a coffee and packed chips the staff never mentioned that we couldn’t dine in. When we asked to sit inside the cafe we were refused because “we are not dining in but ordered take away.” COVID restrictions were never mentioned in the conversation but only that you will not have enough space for dining in (paying more) customers. Regarding your prices I’m pretty sure you’re not sourcing coffee beans in Tasmania. The attitude towards clients’ simple accommodation request was the main issue. While having available places in a sitting area, the staff repeatedly refused to let a family with two children which purchased your business’ products to simply sit down for several minutes. Instead of finding a solution for a simple situation, in a customer friendly way, you have chosen to turn us away and point the way out, at the same time letting other customers in. Unclear and confusing rules can lead other customers to the same situation and this kind of attitude is not appropriate and acceptable for a business that is supposed to serve the clients and attract...

Really bad experience with so-called manager Angela. She yelled at our kids based on skin colour of us. She wants our kids to have a 1.5M distance when there are no Covid 19 restrictions are placed. She yelled at us to move away from others like we are aliens who would infect her. This is complete racial discrimination and beware. The rest of the staff were awesome, and the food was great, just one bad apple.

Reply to the Owner:

We are the ones who should report to police for racial profiling and yelling at our kids. If your polite customer service doesn't include 'Please' and 'Can', but it has words like 'must', then perfect. Brilliant customer service, then. As you are worried about an elderly persons tears, what about our kids who were shocked and currently who are still traumatised with the rude behaviour of your Manager Angela. As an owner, you should be ashamed that you defend a manager who has a bad attitude and is ruining your business. Anyone can see your rude replies to all the negative reviews, which are there for you to address an...
