Austral Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

We stopped here for an early dinner before heading back to Melbourne and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look anything too fancy from the outside but the bistro area was modern and clean and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Also the sign on the window caugth our eye about vegan food even though we aren't vegan but it normally means you have more choises for vegetarian food. We were also given the option of being able to eat upstairs, outside on the balcony which was great as it was a warm night. Hubby had the fish and chips and I had the vegan burger. What a fabulous establishment. Popped in for a beer before setting up our campsite and were greeted like long lost friends. We were informed that the hotel has a courtesy bus, which was much appreciated as the hill climb from the campground is quite an effort. We had planned to go to the Stony Creek Cup. Those going from town were to meet at the pub for the bus ride. Trudy, the publican, introduced us and it really made for a great day. The food, the service, the atmosphere of the Austral is amazing. Highly recommend a visit to the Austral where you’ll be well looked after with old fashioned country...

So happy to find a pub like the good ol pubs used to be, none of this fancy 💩... Heaps of choices in the menu .. I had 1/4 rib eye steak with GARLIC BUTTER, (which half of what they serve would have been enough( vegies were great except for the frozen pack ones..just warm.....sadly only thing that let them down is ....it wasx bloody cold (Sat25th/1/25,) air con did not need to be on that time of night, it was COLD .... But good wise you guys win any day over Wonthaggi Clubs, Pubs whatever..best meal at a pub in a lonnng time with a specials board you...
