Visited here recently when we were in Ballarat for the day. Reviews seemed good, so gave it a shot. Place was clean and tidy, and the range of meats, sides and salads looked fresh. Staff member was also friendly and helpful. We got one 'small chicken dinner' and one '1/2 chicken hot pack' - they were both about the same price but you got a lot more food in the chicken hot pack (you only got a 1/4 chicken with the roast dinner) - had to pinch some of the 1/2 chicken for the other meal to try and balance it off a little. The meals were well presented, and the chicken itself was very tasty and fell off the bone. The roast potato was nice and fluffy inside, but could have been a bit crispier on the outside (it was covered in gravy, but the parts that weren't you could tell it needed to be crispier). The chips were nice and crunchy, the veggies soft and the gravy thick and tasty. However after a few mouthfuls you realise just how salty everything is (chips and gravy in particular), and that unfortunately overpowered the meal. I wasn't a huge fan of the coleslaw - had a slightly sour taste, and also had finely chopped onions which overpowered it a little (probably just personal taste on this one). All in all it was ok - quality of chicken would be a 4-star but the balance of the other stuff brings it...
Read moreOver priced for what could be a great location. Easy stop for weary travelers and locals alike. How ever the food left us wishing we kept driving.
I was disappointed with the small roast chicken pack as they had run out of chicken at 730pm. Instead they gave 1 measley chicken tender and the choice of two side salads. Unfortunately the chicken was to over seasoned and was almost inedible.
My wife got roast pork with roast veggies. I was disappointed to see the pork covered in the hot section sitting in what looked to be brine. Leading me to believe this was boiled pork not roasted. Roasted generally means a little crackle and not sitting in a container of liquid... the peas and carrots were most likely canned due to the level of sweetness. The potatoes were a big plus with a choice of roasted or scallop. We elected the roasted and very happy.
Another plus was the Greek salad. All cucumber, tomato, onion, feta and olives. Unlike most similar places that give you two or three of each on a mound of mixed leaves.
Do yourselves a favour and get a chicken burger at Mcdonalds two doors up. At least you know what you are...
Read moreFood is usually pretty good, I been getting the 22 dollar roast meal pack but there's some discrepancies with the staff and what we get, we do a special order of lots of scallop potatoe and lots of cauli bake, just a lil peas and carrot and enough meat for two ppl covered in gravy, usually we are pretty happy with what we get especially when they give us enough meat! But the last few times I've gotten stuff all meat, we had pumpkin and a roast potatoes in it and when questioned the staff say we need to pay extra for extra meat! Very confusing considering we haven't had to pay for extre meat for a few months now, not to mention the male staff member who laughs in Ur face about the whole...
