My wife and I recently visited and had a thoroughly amazing experience. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and seated in a cosy spot near the fireplace. First course was a delightful soup (ham hock and vegetables) which evoked senses of cold winter's days in a French farmhouse. As someone who loves his bread, what a pleasant surprise it was to have house baked baguettes accompany this dish. A delightful bowl of duck egg ravioli stuffed with cheese followed the soup. It was smooth, melted in your mouth and was just enough to make you wanting more. The roast chicken main was the most succulent bird we had ever tasted and was accompanied by roast vegetables from Annie's farm. We opted for a sweet chocolate dessert which ended the meal on a perfect note. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in and were pleasantly surprised when Annie served the soup and had a chat about the produce and how she prepares here food for her diners. On departure, we thanked Annie for her hospitality and food and were given a nice sweet treat to take with us. She was also generous enough to give us another baguette to take home! We will definitely be back (with the...

Dined for lunch. Our 4 course menu consisted of cauliflower appetiser, pork terrine entree, duck leg main with serving of potato & I had the cheese dessert whilst hubby opted for the meringue. Special mention to the homemade bread Annie bakes as it was wonderful on its own with butter & also to soak up the sauce from the duck main. All the food was beautifully presented & tasted delicious. We got to meet Annie also as she bought out the appetiser. A very lovely & talented woman. I had a few homemade lemon cordial drinks also which was refreshing. Service from the wait staff was very welcoming & friendly. Loved the special take home gift also, such a beautiful touch & a perfect way to end a perfect lunch. I've wanted to do this lunch experience for a long time & was delighted when we finally got a booking. Recommend as a wonderful way to enjoy a fine dining lunch experience in Trentham & hope to return again...

Unfortunately, I cannot agree with all this accolade. Went to celebrate a family birthday and with all the hype we expected a great meal but we were very disappointed. The entree consisted of a a sallad with roasted vegetables which was nice but that was all. About $ 3 worth of food on the plate. The main was a roasted sirloin which was under seasoned, unevenly cooked, stringy and too fatty. There was meant to be a red wine juice and there was about 3 table spoons worth It was served with an unremarkable ratatouille and 3 pieces of rösti. All thrown together with no thought to presentation. The black berry pie dessert was OK but far too much liquid. In all much like an ordinary pub meal and not worthy of a reastaurant with this reputation in this price range. "Emperor's New Clothes"...

I have been following Annie Smithers on the socials for a while and a visit to du Fermier with my lovely was long overdue. A relaxed Friday lunch was the perfect way to sit back and take the time to enjoy the delights on offer. Greeted by name upon entry, the roaring fireplace sets the warm tone. The staff did not miss a single beat the whole afternoon. They are elite. World class. Knowledgeable, polite and polished. And that's all before I have even mentioned the food. It's the best version of local fare with much of it sourced directly from Annie's farm. A seasonal set menu delivers an elegant, earthy and wholeheartedly enjoyable meal that satisfies again and again. And again. Plus you get small farewell gift at the end. Five stars. Can recommend.

We’ve been to Du Fermier twice now and loved both visits. Food is delicious, there is no menu, you get whatever is fresh and seasonal, straight from the garden. Last visit it was an onion tart, duck with apples and either cheese or meringue. Matching wines are generous (you will need an afternoon nap if you go this road!). The food’s simplicity belies its complexity. There is really strong kitchen technique here but there is no fancy fussiness. Wait staff are superb. The first time we visited all of the power had gone out in the area. They could have easily have closed but they kept open- despite the fact that, with no extractors, the kitchen was full of smoke and the lovely chef/ owner was cooking in swimming goggles!
