We were enroute to Kyabram and wanted a lunch spot. Isn't it wonderful when you come across a wonderful restaurant that surprises you. After the drive the first thing I did was use the restroom. It's the little things. Super clean with Aesop products. Immediately you say: There's attention to detail here. Someone cares. On the way back to the dining room I spoke with Chef. I asked: What should I eat? She said if you're in the mood for fish the barramundi we got in this morning looks first class. A great window table and we settled in. Our waiter came over with menus and drinks. A blood orange spritz and a glass of local sparkling and we were away. Pork rillette to share (a special) and two market fish. When you go to restaurant and there is a generosity of serving size and spirit you immediately relax. The rillette came with sour dough toast and we were told if we want more, just ask. Hospitality 101. The fish came with a panzanella salad and bean puree. A complete meal, no sides required. Excellent quality and flavour. Hospitality 101. Only room for a double espresso at the end. This is an excellent, fully formed restaurant with precise cooking and warming and wonderful service. Add this to your "must visit" list. Highly...
Read moreA lovely weekend away from work and the stresses of life requires memorable experiences, good food, wine, and a wow factor. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen very often—except when you walk into this restaurant. The server was welcoming and confident about the food and wine menu.
The food was amazing, and we savoured each bite, from the pork meatballs and baked Camembert with bread to the confit duck and squid ink linguine. This food is so comforting as Italian cuisine should be, and the flavours are extremely well balanced, I loved the fact this Italian restaurant felt classy and modern, something that isn't always achieved.
To be a bit picky, the door to the toilets was left ajar a few times, and on a cold June night, the draft was chilly. Our waitress passed our table a few times, and although my wine glass was empty, she didn't ask if we wanted more drinks. Even when delivering the mains, I had to ask for another drink as she was walking away.
Besides these small details, everything...
Read moreWe had heard great reviews from numerous friends and were not disappointed. We instantly felt welcomed in the cosy restaurant, and had Bernie who took us through the menu and recommended some lovely complimentary wines to what we had ordered. We dined on the scallops with nduja and panagrattato, sundried tomato arancini and focaccia with whipped ricotta to start. For mains, my partner had chicken and basil pesto rollatini with farro and roast capscicum. The chicken was tender and juicy and the pesto beautifully vibrant and fragrant, with the farro providing a nice textural difference and nuttiness to the dish. I thoroughly enjoyed the rigatoni with octopus amatriciana - a dish unlike one I had seen on a menu before, it had large pieces of octopus in a rich tomato based sauce with a lovely hum of chilli. To finish, a yoghurt panacotta with muscat soaked rhubarb was refreshing and balanced sweet and tart elements. Could not fault anything for the night and look forward...
