Thai by the Lake — Restaurant in Victoria

We were fortunate enough to be gifted a meal for Thai Mothers Day by our son & daughter-in-law in Bangkok. From the moment we entered, we were made to feel special. The service was personal & attentive. The waitress was polite & friendly. The owner could not do enough, explaining carefully about each course. Our menu had been pre-selected to match our tastes by our daughter-in-law, but one particular dish was "tweaked" due to the Thai/Aussie differences in spice tolerance. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were even given the left-overs to take home & enjoy the following day. This restaurant deserves to do well, because the staff truly want to provide a different culinary experience. We would not hesitate to bring friends from Melbourne to enjoy the unique atmosphere & beautiful food. Had a below average experience tonight. The menu offers salt and pepper calamari for a main and I asked if it would be possible to have it as an entree. The kitchen refused this and said it was only a main. I ordered the dish anyway with a green curry. The curry was ok. The salt and pepper calamari was terrible with no spice and no seasoning. The calamari was very chewy and tasteless. I was very polite to the staff and complained about the dish. I was surprised the dining room staff actually agreed with me the dish wasn’t what it said on the menu. I paid the bill and left. Felt disappointed that nobody asked if I would like to change the dish or even an explanation would have been enough. Wanted to give one star but the waitress was really nice and probably would get fired if she told the chef his cooking is garbage. Don’t bother and skip the Thai meal and get a steak down...

Food is delicious and the people are super friendly! The chef is the nicest person I've met in the industry! Super humble and welcoming. 100% recommend for the food and service!

Came back in 2024 and the quality of the food, service and hospitality has not changed one bit. The food 1000/100 😋 delicious and the portions are generous. The service 1000/100 they were busy today but this did not stop the owner from coming to each table and talking with the patrons offering an apology and then running back to make her incredible food. We were glad to wait for food that looked, smelled and tasted the way it did.

Highly recommended! By far a gem of a place and a must stop experience for people travelling to Nagambie for a trip! Big shout out to the beautiful owner! You're such an amazing person! God...
