First time in Omeo. Drove over the mountain from Albury for something to do. Saw a dingo, a snake, a blue tongue and numerous wallabies. It was a great drive but not doing it again in a hurry. Pulled into Omeo for a late lunch. I found that the town has two bakeries. Neither bakery appears on my pie map so I have not seen a recommendation on any of the pie Facebook pages. Both rate well on google but Pippas seemed to be slightly ahead on the reviews. So I headed into Pippas. The young lady behind the counter was really nice and chatty and seems to enjoy her job. I grabbed the cheese and bacon pie. This was a homemade style pie and it was large at around 310g. The price was $8.50 which is getting up there for a pie but as it was 50% bigger than your average pie, not bad value. (Boss was paying anyway). A couple of bites in and it was obvious this was a quality pie. Mostly mince with a few bigger chunks but I don't mind a mince pie if done well. The cheese was ample. It was also the type that pulls away in strings as you take a bite. It was delicious. I should have gotten some more photos of the cheese as I ate it but I could not put it down long enough to get more photos, sorry. This is one of the best cheese and bacon pies I have ever had. Read moreFrank and Pippas chunky pepper pies are hands down the best in the district if not the country. My favourite go-to pie is a good old pepper steak so i can safely say I've sampled a fair few on my travels around Aus and these are absolute tops, for the best taste, juicy filling and eat-while-driving ratios don't go past a bakehouse pie. Keep it up team! The service is always friendly and the lengths they go to to provide bakehouse goods doesn't go unnoticed. You'll see the bakehouse open on many days when everything else is shut. The early mornings, the public holidays... you name it they operate. They keep us fed, full and we walk out the door smiling every time....

We’d been hanging to get to Pippa’s Bakehouse—and wow, it totally lived up to the hype. From the moment we arrived, everyone was super friendly and welcoming. It honestly felt like walking into a mate’s place rather than a café.
One of the best parts was having a great chat outside with Frank. Such a legend—so easy to talk to and made us feel right at home. It’s rare to find places where the people are just as memorable as the food.
And the food? Absolutely delicious. Every bite felt like it was made with love.
Can’t wait to come back. If you’re after amazing bakes and genuine good vibes, this...
