Riddells Creek Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

Unimaginative pub style menu. Which is fine if you're a raging omnivore. Does not cater to a wider range of tastes than this. You pretty much have meat dishes sprinkled with one or two gluten free or vegetarian option. It seems that this pub is stuck in an era that died long ago. Such a wasted opportunity for thts pub to branch out and be somewhat original. I didn't want to feed my kids junk from the kids menu and instead opted to order them vegies which would typically be slathered in garlic butter. I'm glad I asked what they came with. The vegetables themselves were well cooked, but despite the outlay of $18 for two serves of veggies and some chips to share (a kids meal costs $11) they decided that I'd have to pay an extra $2 for one activity book which they give away with each kids meal. Staff seemed very inflexible on this and so I decided I would not be spending any money beyond that. Not interested in going there again...

This place has it all together when it comes to serving up quality food, service and very reasonable prices. The tucker here is absolutely magnificent and the stand out for us at lunch was the seafod platter with it's wonderful selection of expertly cooked fresh seafood. It is so pleasing to see the effort put into sourcing fresh seafood as opposed to that cheap imported rubbish served in most establishments. The schnitzels were wonderful. It is great to see that everything was being cooked fresh and all our tables meals came out together. We hopped the train down from Castlemaine for lunch and we simply cannot wait to go back for another visit. Having seen the fantastic steaks that were coming out of the kitchen I am salivating at the thought of a return visit. Thank you for such a great lunch which really topped of my wifes birthday. You should be very proud of the quality...

Service was okish. Walked into the restaurant side, all servers ignored me so I went to the bar to order. Was then asked if I haven been seated. (I didn’t as the kids ignored me). Lady behind the bar was nice and organised me a table next to the fireplace on the bar side. Got the Mexican Parma what was ok. Super sweet flavours, pretty weird. But the worst thing is when I hit my meal delivered and asked for a side of Mayo, the server went to the kitchen to get me some, came then back to tell me the good news are they have Mayo, the bad news are it’s $1. Like I just spend $36 bucks here on 2 beers and a meal and you try to squeeze out another buck of me? I’m here for work for 2 weeks and would have been a costumer every night. Not anymore, first...
