So we walked into Shezzas because it looks amazing. Love the decor and atmosphere of the place. There were two middle aged + ladies behind the counter. One had a spectacular hairdo and was very friendly. She told me that everything in the place is home made, including this strudel (which was boxed in a glass case) and the cakes and slices. So I ordered nachos with confidence and a piece of strudel with cream for dessert. My colleague ( a vegetarian) had only one choice- a ricotta and cheese roll. And also ordered the scones with jam and cream.
The food came after our drinks my tea was nice and strong, but my mates large soy latte was split! (Solids separated on top of the coffee) Then the food arrived… my nachos had that tube guacamole on it, and it had been heated. It was awful, but I managed to scrape it off and eat the rest. The spinach and ricotta roll was not made with fillo or puff pastry… but perhaps a hybrid? It was okay. The strudel came next, and I’d asked for it to be heated. There was a discussion whether I would like the cream heated as well and I declined. The strudel came heated (microwave) and the cream was from a can. The pastry was soggy/uncooked… the cream beside it nicely aerated. Very unpalatable. The scone was a packet scone mix, the jam and cream both from different cans. May I suggest that there was actually NOTHING home made in Shezzas! Everything was prepackaged and thrown together on plates. A BIG disappointment, only to be topped off by the 2 women discussing us within earshot! This is very bad...
Read moreWhat a wonderful place to go too. I read a few reviews on here in particular one a few days ago and felt the need to write a review for myself. Most of the cakes and slices are home made and the scones which were so delicious and fresh. They are made from scratch in house and not a packet mix as was suggested. The jam is a well known top quality commercial brand and the cream is fresh cream which is mixed in a cream dispenser with 100% cream and no additives whatsoever. Who in their mind heats cream and its never ever asked by restaurants. May as well pour milk over it. And as for being ageist and commenting on peoples age and appearance that is bullying. At least they are still able to work. Nachos and baked potatoes are also vegetarian so there is a variety for both vegetarian and they even cater for vegans although that one is limited as is gluten free. Nothing is prepackaged and most of it is freshly made. I asked all of this and saw for myself. The ladies were very friendly and open and easy going. Oh i also saw where the guacamole came from and rest assured it was not from a tube. All in all I had a wonderful experience here and it was great and the homemade mars bar slice was to die for although a tad on the large side lol Would recommend...
Read moreGrandma’s kitchen kind of a food, simple food with the freshest ingredients. We ordered chicken nuggets for my boys as soon as we were seated in hopes of getting their food quickly since they were very hungry but they delivered the kids food last. Latte tasted more like a flat-white than a latte. They offer variety of baked goods all baked in house and very fresh, we took some to go and tried at home, the vanilla slice was fresh but the pink icing on top was overpowering the vanilla slice taste. It is beautifully decorated as 50s diner in a little country town and VERY clean, one of the cleanest restaurants I’ve ever been to.
It was worth trying and if you are looking for simple food and have time to sit, chill and enjoy the atmosphere, go for it! The ladies were lovely but in no rush to make and serve the food in timely manner or at least get you the coffee you ordered. 😄
Keep in mind that there is no bathroom inside the restaurant you either gotta go to next door or around the building...
