We arrived at the Northern star hotel after a massive traveling day 9 hours in the car with our 2 teenager boys . We where all very tired and hungry to say the least. We had restraunt meals and beverages for tea . The chicken snitzal Parmaganas where the best we have ever had , and also the lamb shank which the meat was so tender it literally fell off the bone was also absolutely amazing. The food after ordering was very fast and The service in the restaurant by Emma our waitress was outstanding, she was very cheerful, polite and her caring proffesional nature was the best. She is a absolute asset to this establishment , we can't speak highly enough about her. AAAA+++. The rooms where very clean and tidy and beds where so comfortable. Also the security using electronic card only access to building and rooms is reassuring. We will definitely be back and will tell all how awesome this establishment is. Well done. Read moreOrdered 4 meals 1st. meal was very good, Duck.. 2nd. grilled flathead arrived cold, it was not to bad, bit on the dry side the salad was 90% lettuce, chips didn't taste like chips it's as though they were cooked with something else. 3rd. chicken parma, well that had to be the worst of the lot, very dry and hard, taste well, not good. Have to say the staff were very polite and obliging. That was changed to flathead, which arrived at our table in a matter of minutes. Amazing... well, it was unbelievably dry and bending up from the plate, taste... I'll let you guess the rest. So that was changed to steak, success. That was quite reasonable.
4th.Thai beef salad. Very ordinary too embarrassed to complain anymore.

The decor was amazing, the service very friendly and on point, and the food, OMG, its been a very long time since I've said wow about food. I've wine and dined all over and this place is up there with the best. Our table ordered the steaks, pork Belly and for dessert (tiramasu, stick date and pannacota) and all of them were divine. The price may be high for Ballarat but not so compared to other places I've been to in Melbourne or Sydney. It is well worth the money. My only suggestion is for the place to suggest what wines to pair up with their meals. The alcohol list is comprehensive and a little bit overwhelming.
