On Monday, we held my brother’s wake and celebration of life at the Greenwood Hotel. My mum and sister had spent a full day three weeks earlier visiting multiple venues before choosing this one. When booking, staff assured us they would take care of everything — the food, room setup, and that guests could purchase drinks directly from the bar.
The day before the wake, I drove 1.5 hours round trip to deliver a USB containing a slideshow of precious photo memories and to ensure the music would play correctly. The functions manager tested the USB and explained their TV was outdated and would only play the video in a movie format. He asked me to leave it with him, assuring me he’d convert and prepare it for Monday. He also confirmed that any phone could play music using their adapters, except on Monday we realized they only had an adapter for iPhones. I could have easily taken the usb home with me to convert if it was going to be an issue.
He asked how many people would be attending, and I said up to 100.
When we arrived after the service at 12pm, the room was closed, lights were off, the TV was off, and there was no cord ready to plug in to play music. No sign for anyone to know where to go. Early guests were sitting outside in the lounge area waiting. When I asked staff for help, the bar attendant said she would get a manager — but after 15 minutes, no one came. When I asked again, she responded rudely that the manager was coming.
I explained that the TV wasn’t set up and that the USB with our slideshow was already with them. She had no idea what I was talking about. The slideshow had not been converted or prepared as promised, meaning hours of effort to create those memories were wasted. Her response was simply, “We don’t usually use people’s USBs” — with no further apology or acknowledgement of their stuff up.
The food service was equally disappointing. No staff offered food to guests or circulated it. Only a few platters arrived. My mum had to scramble to order kids’ meals to share, and she ended up walking around offering cold chips and packets of sultanas to guests. Later, about half an hour before people started to leave, a few more dishes appeared — Domino’s pizza and chips amongst it. My daughter and I had to stop by Macca’s on the way home.
There was no bar service in the function room, so everyone had to go out to the main bar to order drinks. When my sister asked for a coffee, she was told there was only one staff member who could make it and it would take 20 minutes — her husband ended up leaving to buy one elsewhere.
The worst part for me was the attitude of the staff. They were dismissive, unhelpful, and made us feel like we were an inconvenience. At one point, I even saw one staff member smirk and shake her head at another because we were asking for help.
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. We chose the Greenwood so that our family could focus on remembering my brother without worry or stress. Instead, it turned into a frustrating and upsetting experience that completely failed to honour the moment we had worked so...
Read moreI had been wanting to visit the Greenwood for the last few weeks and finally had the opportunity to do so this evening. I looked at the menu online and was going to order the shark bay scallops as not really a big eater. Found there were a few more items on the menu when we were seated and settled to try the cheeseburger sausage rolls & a side of broccolini. Broccolini wasn’t available but was offered asparagus. When we sat down the table was stickey and covered with salt and there was a salt shaker but no pepper - also the floor had a few food scraps laiden all over it. Drinks came through pretty quickly and then the meals were served. My friend ordered the parmi which looks amazing and such a huge serve. Unfortunately my sausage rolls were inedible - they were rock hard and you couldn’t cut them at all. I couldn’t find a waiter for about 10 minutes as even though there were about 4 or 5 of them working were no where to be seen. Finally caught the attention of one of them whom took my plate away and said she would remove the item from the bill - which was great. Then came back to the table to advise she had spoken with chef who wasn’t impressed with the quality of dish served & wanted to offer a fresh batch which I declined and ended up sharing my friends parmi. Should have stuck with what I had wanted to order in the first place - the scallops. Went to pay for the meal and realised after paying that the sausage rolls had not been removed from the bill as promised. The waiter had to go and find his manager for assistance and came back to advise these had not been removed from the bill. No further compensation provided which was quite disappointing. Even if were weren’t charged for a few drinks that we had had that would have been a nice apologetic gesture. Really disappointing as I had been looking forward to going to The Greenwood but left there totally...
Read moreSuch a big place, so spacious and lovely for a function or casual meal, plus some more quiet tables for two for date night. Really nice bar area, very funky! They offer a great drinks menu but sadly not the best Cocktails, I failed to find the the alcohol in their Daquiris and it was just like a little juice and all ice blended.
Our table of 3 had the Oysters Kilpatrick and the Cob Loaf for starters. We are big oyster fans, but I would say the oysters were not fresh at all and starting to get a bit sticky and would be the worst 'Kilpatrick' style we've had with big chunks of bacon and a real thick overpowering sauce. The Cob loaf wasn't the best value. For mains we enjoyed the Steak Sandwich that was beautifully made and Spaghetti Marinara was fab! I ordered the Tasmanian Salmon and the salmon itself was lovely and nicely cooked however it came with the most awful rendition of potato salad I have ever had, to the point I found it inedible and advised staff who said they would pass my feedback on to the kitchen. I see other diners have commented on this same odd potato salad (with beans, peas and sundried tomato) served cold with hot salmon on top. A side of veg or a simple salad would have worked much better. Service was friendly and prompt. Plenty of parking and ease of access, the establishment was clean and well lit. Overall this is a great local and has so much potential to be...
