When I arrived a man was ahead of me in the queue, he walked away and I approached the counter. The woman gruffly said “I can’t serve you, I’m serving him” and pointed at the man who had wandered off and seemed to be standing in the corner sending an sms.
He came back and ordered his food. I ordered a coffee and grabbed a menu for when my friend arrived and the same woman snapped “where are you sitting?” I pointed at one of two empty tables and she demanded “what number is it?” I told her I’d just arrived and didn’t know, so she told me to go and look and come back and tell her (which I did). the whole time I’d been in the cafe there were four coffees on the bench getting cold not being served to people. She said to the rest of the staff, “can someone go and deliver those coffees, thanks”. No one acknowledged she spoke. She charged me for my coffees and then told me it would be a 15 minute wait. Fine.
My friend arrived, she ordered a cup of tea and a scone with jam and cream.
I ordered the brisket open sandwich with pickles, pickled onions and poached egg. When it was delivered to our table it was swimming in a tomato and onion sauce. It was nothing like I expected. The staff member clearly saw the disappointment on my face and explained it was an open sandwich. I said that i knew it would be open, I just wasn’t expecting tomato sauce. She said I could swap it. I didn’t want to be annoying but I said I’d try it first. It was gross. The bread was soggy. With the pickled onions and pickles and tomato sauce it was acid, on acid, on acid, with no relief. I asked her to swap it for eggs Benedict with ham and paid the difference.
The eggs Benedict came out with the thinnest toast I’ve ever seen, sitting on a pool of that EXACT SAME TOMATO SAUCE. Unacceptable. That was definitely the kitchen screwing with me for sending food back, and one of my poached eggs had a hard yolk. I did not complain for fear they’d spit in the next thing.
The coffee was delicious.
All in all the very worst breakfast experience I’ve ever had in Perth.
Lovely environment though, fantastic garden centre. ...
Read moreMet for coffee with my mother's group yesterday and was really disappointed with the customer service I received while trying to order. My breastfed baby has a dairy allergy so I am unable to consume any dairy to prevent her having a severe reaction. When ordering I asked the cashier if the chai mix contained any dairy and the women rolled her eyes and walked away to check the package, she returned shortly after and said it doesn't state dairy free so I declined and ordered a coffee instead. I then tried to order Eggs Benedict and again checked with her if it contained any dairy and she gave me a sour look and walked into the kitchen to check with the cook. She returned again shortly after and said it has butter so I again declined and she proceeded to tell me in a rude tone that if I had an intolerance all I could order were coconut pancakes or dairy free banana bread as everything else contains butter or milk. I was made to feel like an inconvenience for my questions, so I quickly accepted the banana bread, paid and went back to my table. When my coffee did arrive it was a small serving and I was never offered a larger size and I didn't realise there was an option for a larger coffee. If told I would have gone with a larger size. My dairy free banana bread also came with a side of real butter which was very inappropriate. If any spread was offered it should have been dairy free. After accidentally being served dairy in the past and subsequently my infant suffering for days I am very cautious when eating out and after this experience I won't rush back to this premises as it's hard enough eating out with an allergy let alone being made to feel like an inconvenience even though I was polite with all of my questions. It's a real shame because the venue is lovely and the playground makes it a great place to meet with children. If the service staff don't want to be questioned then make the allergen information available on your menu so people can decide what items are suitable for their dietary...
