Left feeling very disappointed in the quality of the food and the cold service. Who ever was front of house was not warm at all (she was brunette with an accent). We felt very unwelcome and like being served was the last thing anyone wanted to do. Common courtesies were missed and the smallest requests for things such as asking for an extra napkin felt like we were asking too much.
Food and drinks took a long time to arrive and in random order. Some family members ordered sandwiches, which were toasted without asking. While that's not normally an issue, the sandwiches came out extremely soggy and were difficult to eat. The food in general was very mediocre.
When we went to pay (out the front), we stood by the till where a waitresses was standing. She started putting bottles on a shelf and walked away. My friend and I looked at each other, figured that maybe she didn't take payments, so we decided to go inside and pay. The young girl at the front said she'd be with us in a minute and proceeded to clean the counters and glasses. Then in the middle of paying a split bill, she made a smoothie for another customer while we stood waiting. The store wasn't busy. It felt very strange and rude. I then gave her some feedback on the toasted sandwiches, where she was very suprised that no one asked us if we wanted it toasted. She apologised and that was that.
Back at the table, I let my family member know that I gave the store feedback. The girl who took our payment walked out to tell the front of house waitresses, perhaps to ask her to please clarify with customers. The front of house waitress stared straight at us, rolled her eyes, shook her head at us and walked away...that was the final straw and we left very upset. I will not be going back to the City Beach branch. If I was the owner of this establishment, I'd be investing more time in the quality of my...
Read moreWe came to the burger pop up at this location with an MSWA voucher. We drove quite a distance to use this voucher but were turned away because they “could not accept it” due to a system issue. Nowhere on the MSWA website or in the voucher terms and conditions does it state a specific time or location that the voucher could be used at. This refusal of service is essentially breaking the contract terms between MSWA and Mary Street Bakery. I strongly advise anyone else in a similar situation to email both Mary Street Bakery and MSWA to voice the broken contract and failure of Mary Street to accept and uphold valid vouchers. Furthermore, the girl serving us had a snotty attitude - I could not be bothered to educate her on ACL as she obviously does not care. Additionally, I would question whether the staff at this venue have undertaken appropriate training in regards to the safe service of alcohol. The second girl who took our payment served us alcohol by getting assistance from the first snotty girl. I should highlight that under 18s are not allowed to serve alcohol as this breaks RSA and licensing legislation. To make this worse, I also question whether staff at this venue have participated in food safety training - the younger girl served herself and her coworker a portion of gelato thinking us customers couldn’t see what they were doing. She scooped it, before taking both portions behind the service desk to eat. The food that was eventually served to us was dismal - the staff could see that we were dining in but served all of our food into take away boxes. No cutlery or water was served to us either. The staff at this venue need proper hospitality training! Very disappointing experience in light of the reputation Mary Street...
Read moreCame here for brunch with my husband and 2 daughters. We were given a table by the waitress it was dirty and she said she would clean it but had to ask 3 times to different servers could they please clean it as nobody came back to wipe it down even after taking our order. Waited 20 minutes for coffees and 40 minutes for food. When food arrived my daughters eggs were covered in pepper and I had to send them back, my husbands egg wasn't cooked properly (still translucent) gross! Pancakes were dry and the pea and Avocado smash was piled high on top of a rock hard piece of sourdough i couldn't even cut through, seemed it must have been toasted from stale bread. Couldn't eat it. Also very overpriced for what you get, paid $6.50 for a side of bacon which was 2 small pieces. The service was atrocious no assistance, being ignored when trying to pay and no acknowledgement from anyone, just kept walking past me...I also had to go and get my own cutlery to eat our food as they never refilled the cutlery tin on our table either! It wasn't that busy and yet staff standing around drying glasses when tables were filthy and customers sitting down at them. Nice venue but everything else ruins that. Will not be going back. So disappointing and frustrating 😕 I can see by other reviews not the only one leaving similar reviews and by the looks of it they don't care addressing...
