This is by far the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. As an avid fan of this dish, believe me when I say I have tried many around the world and nothing hit quite like this one. Thank you Saltys for such a wonderful experience! The snapper was so thick I couldn’t believe it (I have never had such juicy and fresh fish before), and the chips were crunchy and perfectly seasoned. The squid was soft and delectable. I love the customisability of everything, especially with the vinegar, chicken salt, and even GF options. Everything stayed perfect and ridiculously crispy (but not oily) even after a 20 minute trip back home. We gobbled it all up, and the portion size was so generous we were absolutely stuffed full by the end of it. I only wish my stomach could handle more. Rob and his team were so friendly and amazing. Rob, I had a great time chatting with you and you made me feel such warmth despite the absolutely freezing weather. I think you and your team are doing fantastic work (which is certainly paying off) and your service is top tier. Thank you for looking out for me and throwing in the sauces, I really appreciate it! The curry was my favourite too. I would highly recommend anyone looking for the best traditional fish and chips in Freo to come by Saltys for delicious food and great service. I'm originally from the UK where I like to think we know how to make great fish and chips.

I also just finished a 3 week roadtrip across from Melbourne to Perth following the coastline where I tried multiple different fish and chips takeaways on my trip, some in areas that are apparently know for their fish.

Saltys fish and chips takes the cake for being the best fish and chips I have had.

The piece of fish I was recommended by the owner who served us was snapper. The snapper is cut up into 3 smaller fillets to batter and fry in their signature saltys batter and it's delicious. Not dry at all, melts in your mouth, and the batter is to die for. Perfect size and fills you up more than you think it will when you first open the wrapper, 10 out of 10 on the fish.

The chips are great. Nothing to rant about, chips are chips, it's hard to really get them wrong but they get them right.

We also got some of their tartar sauce which is unreal. It's home made and apparently is super popular and you can understand when you try it. AMAZING!!

To top it all off saltys has gluten free batter and can be celiac guaranteed. My gf is gluten free and told me that the batter was also amazing.

Lastly we tossed up the idea of getting some squid rings but we're unsure of whether we were hungry enough. Rob threw in two so that we could have 1 each to try, they also were lush.

Extremely slow service, stone cold, oily, not great

Arrived at 4:35 and ordered 2x snapper & chips, and squid rings. The gent who served me was warm and friendly and said 15 mins which was perfect! I’d left, and after 10/15 mins I went back in to wait for my order - the kitchen seemed to be chaotic and unorganised which meant issues with orders going out.

I eventually got my order at 5:25, nearly one hour later! It was stone cold, half a portion of chips, squid rings were chewy and very oily and did not reflect the money I’d spent. It felt like the order had been sat waiting for a very long time without being called out. I spent over $40 and it wasn’t worth it

One positive was the fish itself was delicious, very meaty and nice quality, I would’ve just liked it hot!

The gent serving was overall apologetic for the slow service but to be honest I wouldn’t go back. It looks like this is a one off judging by the reviews, but we won’t be rushing...
