Booked this place for 6 PM because of rave reviews from a family member.
Admittedly, the person on the phone did say they were busy but could manage a booking for 4.
We arrived 5 minutes early and were promptly served and seated. We ordered about 10 minutes, orders were I'm by 6.10
At 6.50, we didn't have the four pizzas and salad we ordered.
We also noticed that two tables [of two] who were seated after us had received their orders.
We asked the service person, and pizzas came out about 10 minutes later.
1 hour wait for pizza is never a good sign, so we were hoping the food would be amazing.
Unfortunately my wifes pizza arrived 10 minutes later, with the rest of the table having nearly finished theirs.
My wife ordered a seafood option on a gluten-free base. Maybe that is what made it take longer.
Now a positive is that she said her gluten-free base was the best she has ever had.
Unfortunately, she waited 1 hour and 10 minutes, and her pizza was heavily cooked on one half and lightly cooked on the other.
Being pregnant, under cooked seafood isn't a safe option, but also the burned side wasn't enjoyable. So I ate the parts she avoided to avoid waste.
We ordered a tiramisu to go because we were all so disappointed we didn't want to wait any longer.
When paying the bill, it came to $160.
So, all in all.
Service 2/5 - adequate to good. Provably should have been proactive in saying there was a wait.
Food 2/5 - inconsistent, some of us liked it, others said meh.
Overall, 2/5 - I wouldn't think waiting for 1 hour or 1 hour 10 is ever acceptable.
Our family business is hospitality. There were 60 years of experience in running restaurants sitting at the table.
I think when food is delayed, it really puts the pressure on everything to be exceptional.
When it isn't , it feels like wasteful of time, money, and a nice night out with family.
One caveat - my pizza was delicious, and I enjoyed it.
Maybe order take away if timing...
Read moreTry to book a table for 3 but no one answered the phone. Drove to order some takeaway. Asked for a table in case someone cancelled. Was told no tables but there were 3 tables vacant the entire time we were waiting. Ordered at 18:27. Were told to wait 20min. Decided to go for a drive around the block. Returned at 18:50 and no pizzas in sight. 19:15 pizza at last.
Pizzas were ok but not “the best in Perth for sure”
Slowdough Pizza in Willagee is just as good if not better PLUS you don’t have to wait more than 45min for a pizza.
Response to owner:
Dear Gabrielle
My story is not unreal, your facts are. We were not there on a Friday night but on a Sunday Not sure how you can call back if someone calls from an “unknown number” We did not sit down at a table, we sat outside your restaurant in our car after driving around the block. So there was no chance that we sat at a table and you could have asked us to get up. Nor could it be that I laughed in your face because no one spoke to me We were 2 adults and a child - 3 people. Not just 2 people We did not ask for a refund either. I’d much rather just walk off and get food from somewhere else. This is not the first time we’ve been to your restaurant. It was the 4th. 2 times dining in (we also waited more than 45 min for a pizza) and 2 times when we got takeout. Please note: We don’t mind waiting for good food it just seems that the standard response is “20 minutes” Just be honest and tell the customer 30 or 40 or 60 minutes. Please get your facts in order before confusing us with someone else. This is rude and...
Read moreForno Antico came recommended from friends - so I decided to join them to try for myself. We were welcomed nicely and professionally (3 out of 4 staff are italian and so my group of friends and myself) - sat down and ordered some pizzas (BYO allowed and the bottle shop next door had some Peroni Red - which was a nice surprise and reminded me of Rome - where I am from). The pizza team (guy and girl) were busy with takeaways and we had a big group of 8 before us - so we had pizzas at our table half hour after ordering (acceptable wait time given how busy the Team was on a Thursday nighy). I ended up ordering a Mare e Monti (seafood) but I was puzzled when the pizza arrived and was strangely lukewarm (I could see the wood fired pizza oven was going well and seemed to cook pizzas quite fast) - I asked my friends at the table but they seemed happy with the heat from their pizzas (maybe mine sat a little while the others were cooking?). Anyway - base is typical of southern Italian pizzas (chunky edges - very soft and pleasant to eat) - the base was thin and tasted good - seafood seemed fresh but lacked taste (I could make up 2 big prawns cut and spread over the pizza). I will try another pizza next time - overall good quality pizza South of the River- happy to give it another go, walked away not feeling super full (which is good) but still wanting more. Till next time...
