The team at Brown Sugar is the heart and soul of this business. Every time I visit, the staff: Maddison, Asta, Kiara and Rhi create such a welcoming atmosphere with their hard work, creativity, and genuine care. The Christmas vibe was absolutely stunning, and itâs clear the team goes above and beyond to make every experience special.
However, I must address the unfortunate reality of the ownerâs behaviour, which dampens the otherwise beautiful energy of the cafĂ©. On multiple occasions, Iâve witnessed manic and emotionally charged behaviour from the owner, which seems to place unnecessary pressure on the staff, extending to the customers witnessing it.
Itâs also concerning that Iâve never seen the team take proper breaks, even when working long open-to-close shifts. Itâs heartbreaking because the staff work so hard to create a lovely experience, but their efforts are overshadowed by the ownerâs unreasonable expectations.
Brown Sugar has the potential to be one of the best spots in town because of its amazing team and vibe, but the way the staff are treated behind the scenes leaves a sour taste. I hope changes are made to support the people who make this...

They take their coffee seriously, have a variety of milks to choose from ( the oat milk is delicious) and have a careful selection of treats that never fail to delight. Their pastries are ALWAYS fresh, and do try the ham and cheese croissant... They carefully , and slowly heat it so the cheese melts all the way through and is just the most amazing thing ever- It will surely perk you out of any bad mood your kids may have put you in that morning. ;-) Top it off with friendly staff that have a good laugh and banter and are willing to help you swap out your husband when he wont share his chocolate muffin, what more could you ask for?! :) Love...

It was a casual yet intimate setting as the numbers of attendees are restricted so you actually get to chat with whoever you feel like (I went on my own and was made to feel very welcome by the host and guests). The cheese platter was perfect and there were a selection of local wines to choose from. Met some locals I hadnât run into before, and even met a local comedian who had some great stories to tell. Will go back for another event to showcase this to some...
