Its worthwhile perservering with their quirky booking system to get a table. Food was fresh and delicious. The service was good. The ambience is perfect as you are literally eating on an enclosed wharf. We had scampi, balmain bug and Jewish. All cook simply and that was fine as ot was fresh from the market next door... See photos. Points for improvement: Booking- we tried to go here and it's either closed or full. Friends had same issue - apparently they simply close if they dont think there are the numbers. Also, I called to book and then was told no tables till 2pm, I asked to reserve on line then went online and couldn't book. Had to call back and they relented and took the booking. When we arrived at 2pm there were plenty of tables. Friends encountered similar issues includong website not providing correct opening hours. Whoever owns this place should seriously review the system. Finishing touches - the restaurant could be so much more... the bench seats, paper napkins and self serve cutlery appear to give the vibe that it is simply a restaurant attached to a fish shop. I think someone shluld simply pputthe finish i my touches to make it a great restaurant that happens to have fresh seafood from the adjacent fish shop.

Went there as it was so highly-rated. Been to many fish n chips joint and this is probably one of the bottom two in Australia. :( Even worse as we had high expectations from the reviews. Cashier told us their blackfish was very popular but she's not tried it. Ordered that and it was the worst of the 3 we ordered, the other 2 being sea bream and hake (standard fish n chips). Queues were much bigger than they deserve. We waited about 30 mins, having arrived around 12.30pm on a Sunday. Fish batter was light and good but if it was a word, I would've called it "whelming". Not "over-" or "under-". Just "whelming." Portions were below average and there was NO CHICKEN SALT!!! THE HORROR!!! Chips were ok but we couldn't get over the lack of chicken salt! Can easily name other joints that blow this out of the water - Innes Boatshed@Bateman's Bay, Michael's at Dalmeny and that-small-place-in-Warnambool-I-think-I-reviewed. Edit: I noted that many of the good reviews were of the restaurant at the back. We went to the takeaway in front. Can't comment on the restaurant at the back.

A BEAUTIFUL location and great food BUT and it's a HUGE BUT! Acoustic are hell, you cannot hear those speaking that share your table Unsuitable music screams through cheap speakers, further drowning out conversation Food presentation is disgusting (sardines with larger olive coloured capers on a teal coloured plate) reflecting a total lack of restaurant experience A broken ill considered boating theme of unattractive bits and pieces Staff (who are great) but have no dress code consistent with thought out image THEY NEED TO: Put acoustic sponge tiles under the tables and on the ceiling Invest in a music system and a music selection that respects the surrounding beauty Invest in simple white china Have the staff dress in black pants, white shirts and a blue/white striped apron. DON'T EAT HERE: Until you see posts that reflect a low cost intelligent upgrade that is sensitive to the amazing asset the owners possess PLEASE: Don't see this as a complaint, please see it as a local pleading, that you reward your great chef and nature, with a restaurant we can all enjoy.

Will never eat here again! You’ve lost a long time customer. I’ve Been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years with my family and today I had the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. The young girl at the front I think her name was (Anna) was extremely rude and arrogant. I had booked a table two days prior for the 4 of us and I specifically asked for an easily accessible place as my father is disabled. When arriving we waited 20 minutes to be seated and the wait staff ignored us. Once we were finally seated they sat us directly outside of the toilet in a narrow squeeze of a table. When I kindly asked to be moved as there were 4 other tables I could see that were free and it would be extremely difficult for my father to sit comfortably on this table they placed us ….“Anna” the waitress bluntly refused to move us. When I questioned the reason all she could say to me was her computer system placed us on this table and she wouldn’t move me due to this reason. Obviously I didn’t understand as I could see at least 4 free tables that could comfortably seat us. Anna continued to be rude and disrespectful to me and refused to help us.

My family and I travelled quite a distance for this lunch so we decided to let Annas rude behaviour go and we squished into our small allocated table and ordered. For the next 45minutes I watched as none of the other 4 free tables were filled ..they continued to be available.

Once we had finished our meal the owner was walking past our table so I called her over. I explained that we have been eating here for over 20 years and never had a problem before…yet today was different because of the rude waitress Anna. The owner took absolutely No responsibility for her employee, she went on to blame us. I was shocked! Could not understand how the owner was so blind to this behaviour of her staff ….but then was not surprised that her staff have such bad attitude as the owner had just as bad of an attitude! ……. It wasTerrible customer service, so disrespectful and rude especially to my disabled father. When we were leaving the people on the table behind us pulled our attention and the man said that he was the same as us. He had been coming to this restaurant for years but lately the staff have been so rude and the service has been terrible etc.

The owner clearly needs help! Your quality of your restaurant is diminishing. You are going to continue to lose long time customers especially if you decide to blame the customer when they voice their concerns to you. You would benefit in some training on how to deal...

The takeaway fish and chips here have been a staple of mine following a ride up the old Pacific hwy for several years.

The good:: The fish is always fresh and tasty with several local offerings such as bream or whiting on the menu. 👍😍

What to watch out for: The sign at the front kindly requests only one person in the store at a time (ostensibly a lingering COVID 19 warning), which many people blissfully ignore. This includes the staff, who don't seem to enforce their rule, until one staff member comes out and bellows abuse at people for not reading the sign when there are too many people in the shop. Stand inside in line at your peril!

The bad: One young staff member in particular has no business being in a customer-facing role. My most recent experience was probably the best example of how NOT to behave when serving a customer. Allow me to describe:

After waiting outside per the signage, I walked up to the counter and said "hi" (you know, addressing a fellow human being with courtesy?). She didn't even respond.

I asked for a grilled Whiting, chips and salad, to which she replied tersely "we don't grill whiting", without any offering of an alternative. Yeah, of course, silly me. I should've known that grilling a delicate piece of fish like that wasn't ideal, but I was trying to be a tad healthy 🙄

So after saying "battered is fine" she asked if I would like anything else. I indicated a drink option and she then uttered something unintelligible. I looked at her somewhat confused, at which point she rolled her eyes and told me the price. I dutifully paid and went to wait outside.

I didn't have to wait long, which is unusual for lunchtime any day, let alone the middle of summer (maybe business is declining....given this individual's attitude I can reason why).

I went to pick up my order, which had my drink selection clearly labelled on top, except the drink wasn't provided. I asked nicely for my drink, to which the young woman again rolled her eyes, went to the fridge and summarily handed it to me with a dismissive flick of the wrist.

Guys, I really enjoy the food and the ambience here, but if you're going to charge the best part of $20+ for fish and chips, it would be helpful to change your staff's attitude if you want...

Not sure where to start with this, having read all the other terrible reviews.

I think my comments will only be ignored by the owners of this business as all the other comments that talk about ‘ rude service, aggressive staff, inedible food, arrogance of the owners…. the list goes on.

I went with my partner to celebrate a happy occasion and to support a local business in our area.

This was completely destroyed by the poor attitude of staff especially the wait staff who clearly have no training in hospitality let alone know how to conduct themselves in a service focused industry.

I blame the owners, who have no skill set on the hiring process or giving adequate training to deliver a dining experience that reflects hospitality.

They have set the standards so low that the staff clearly don’t respect the diners who initially are paying their wages.

To have staff blatantly disrespect and passively be aggressive to you is somewhat confrontational.

In never witnessed such a car crash of a service oriented business as I have today. After months of driving past on my way home, it was decided to that we would visit.

The worst $125 spent and we only ordered 2x beers and the fish n chips x 2, also 6 x natural oysters.

I could go on for pages typing about this cluster f@&$ of an experience. Locals need to stay away from this place or I’m sure they already do.

The owners should be ashamed for stealing from their community as they obviously don’t care. (This is fact after talking with the male owner about the poor service from his staff, he basically turned and walked off. Not even ‘ a sorry for this ‘

Avoid this appalling place!!!! 0 stars for you horrible people!!!!

To reply to the response. Actually we don’t eat meat or dairy. Big difference!! Never once did I abuse anybody. Let alone a female or any person. It’s ok you can justify your bad hospitality business any way you like. From the local talk it’s a good thing yours trying to sell. Don’t worry I wouldn’t waste my money a second time. Much better...
