Wyong Milk Factory Café Review: Absolutely Disgusting Experience
I cannot even begin to describe how furious I am with my experience at the Wyong Milk Factory Café. It was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. If I could give this place zero stars, I would, because frankly, they don’t deserve even one.
Let’s start with the wait—TWO HOURS. Yes, you read that right. We waited two whole hours for our food. And in that time, we received absolutely no apologies, no updates, nothing. The staff acted like it was our fault for daring to ask when our food might arrive, even though we were clearly waiting with a hungry toddler, which they could see! We weren't just brushed off; we were treated with an appalling level of rudeness and incompetence. Honestly, the staff seemed clueless and uncaring the entire time.
Finally, when our food did arrive after what felt like a lifetime, it was wrong. Of course, it was wrong. I was already on edge, but when I saw the pathetic excuse for a smoothie I paid $8.50 for, my blood boiled. It wasn’t a smoothie at all. It was water, with a couple of sad-looking raspberries tossed in. Imagine paying nearly $9 for something that tasted like melted ice water with a hint of fruit. I’ve had better drinks out of a garden hose. Absolutely disgusting.
The food was no better. I ordered scrambled eggs, which arrived weeping water—completely unappetizing, and the eggs were overcooked to the point of being nearly inedible. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the portion sizes were a joke. Want a tiny teaspoon of spinach? That’ll be $4 extra. A tablespoon of baked beans? Another $4. The price gouging is unreal. They’re charging outrageous amounts for sides that wouldn’t even feed a child. It’s offensive. And after all that waiting, after all that money spent, the meal was just a soggy, overpriced disaster.
But what really pushed me over the edge was the attitude of the staff. They were rude, dismissive, and made zero effort to rectify any of their mistakes. They didn’t offer any form of apology for the delays, the incorrect order, or the vile food we were served. They didn’t care one bit about our experience, and frankly, they made it seem like it was our fault for daring to complain or expect any better.
We left the Wyong Milk Factory Café feeling angry, disgusted, and absolutely ripped off. It was hands down one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve ever had, and the way we were treated was completely unacceptable. To top it off, we had a hungry toddler to deal with throughout this ordeal. The whole thing was a nightmare, and I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague.
Wyong Milk Factory Café, if you’re reading this—do better. Your food is appalling, your service is atrocious, and your prices are a scam....
Read moreDisclaimer: this review is not the reality, it is to demonstrate the absolute amazing potential this place has to offer, especially as a heritage site. My hope is that someone who has the capacity to make some change will see this and be able to harness it's potential and bring it to life.
We came to the Wyong Milk Factory with our two young kids to have a look around for lunch. While it likely is very different in the evening, it was a ghost town at 10am on a Saturday and is clear that the management of the site overall needs to be reassessed with a obvious need for an overhaul from comeone with a clear and consistent vision as this place could be pumping during the day.
The site itself has mismatched, old and broken down furniture throughout, gardens overrun with weeds, poor signage. There is, however, ample parking and a multitude of outdoor spaces. Most of the links on their website are incorrect or broken or need an update (including their social media) and would benefit from some images that aren't stock photos.
Inside the main restaurant, the bare bones of the building are spectacular, with many heritage elements hidden throughout. It is clear, however, that seemingly random changes have been added over time (likely from new owners / managers trying to make their mark in an attempt to make improvements) and have ended up obscuring the heritage and original beauty of the building. Degrading play equipment, dusty (but cordoned off) piping and electricals, random bookshelf and photographic displays, messy and exposed hospitality storage, haphazard hand-written signage, odd lighting and decor inclusions, overgrown (or dead) pot plants, and poor merchandising. If someone came along and paired everything back, this space could really sparkle.
Let me be really clear, I adored this building and site simply for the incredible potential that it offered. I was obsessed. From the range of entertainment and programs they have scheduled they are definitely trying. It just really needs some TLC from someone with a lot of heart, vision, and of course $$$ to help bring the whole...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Wyong Milk Factory during the break between Christmas and new year and we won’t be returning unfortunately.
We ordered a soy flat white and a soy chai latte. Both drinks were good.
To eat, I had a bacon and egg roll and my wife ordered the summer berry waffles. At the time of ordering there was one other table eating food, so it was basically empty. We were handed one of those buzzy square things that lets you know when you need to go and collect your food, despite it appearing to be table service. Our food was ready pretty fast, and we quickly noticed this was because it wasn’t all fresh. My wife’s waffles were pre packaged from a box (we know this because we saw the waffle box with company logo on the side) so they just needed to be heated in a microwave, and the summer berries were pre packaged frozen berries, despite it being in peak season for berries. None of it was fresh, and you could taste it. My egg was very overcooked, but apart from that it was fine. That being said, a bacon and egg roll is 50% egg, so that brings the mark down considerably if the egg is well overdone.
The overall appearance of the cafe is dated and just isn’t even close to the standard you would get from cafes in surrounding towns in Newcastle or on the north central coast. The staff were friendly which was nice.
The fact we paid $20 for pre-packaged not fresh waffles from a box and frozen berries is astonishing, and an overall price of $41 for what was an average / below average meal isn’t great at all.
The place needs an overhaul. There are shops around it (daily dough co for donuts etc) that the Wyong milk factory seems to be relying upon to bring in crowds, therefore lacking the urgency to upgrade their own cafe, which is a real shame.
We won’t...
