Die Hirschau — Restaurant in Bad Gastein

I gave this place a couple of tries. At first I had some reservations regarding the size of the portions (way too small for the rather higher prices) as they were far from satisfying. But the food was tasty and I came back.

That time I just wanted to have a beer and enjoy it outside - as the view from the terrace is by far the best part of this establishment. But I was told off by the waitress/owner lady - that it's too windy out there. Alright.

The last time I came with my kids. First I was told we were sitting at the wrong table. That this one is reserved, duh. There was no sign regarding that reservation though. So we moved. Then we asked if we could sit outside (always better for kids) and to that we were told that if it starts raining we won't be allowed to come back in (!). And then I dared asking if I could right away order and was told that not. That we have to first take the table outside. And a rant about some rabbit outside and how we (obviously meaning my kids) can't go to it followed. After all this we decided to leave and spend our money somewhere where they would actually appreciate it. Taking all the other bad reviews into account the unpleasantness of this lady who runs the place will be soon legendary in the...

Awesome local restaurant.

One of the best steaks what I have had ever, goes to top five. Meat was excellent and preparation in medium was excellent, really tender steak. Only thing to improve is to have a bit more taste to sauce since peppersauce is expected to have taste of "pepper".

Good selection of wines and local austrian red wine surprised our group how good it really was.

Waiter serving was a sweet lady with good humor and speaking fluent english.

Leider haben wir die Hirschau erst zwei Tage vor unserer Abreise entdeckt. Wir reservierten am selben Tag und wurden von der Wirtin sehr freundlich empfangen. Den Abend kann ich nur als kulinarisches Erlebnis bezeichnen: Das Essen war vorzüglich, ein Rostbraten vom Hirsch, der auf der Zunge zerging. Dazu ein vorzüglicher Rotwein, den die Wirtin mit beeindruckendem Schwung aus hohem Bogen dekantierte. Von der köstlichen Bratensoße bereitete der Koch auf meine Bitte hin noch eine Extraportion zu. Auf die Nachspeise mussten wir leider verzichten, da das Lokal um 20.00 schloss, und wir schon recht spät dran waren. Beim Zahlen ergab sich dann noch ein sehr herzliches Gespräch mit der Hausherrin. Ich kann die Einschätzung einer unfreundlichen Bedienung überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen. Wir durften eine Wirtin kennenlernen, die hohe Ansprüche an die Küche ihres Hauses und die Qualität der Speisen hat, und die einfach auch Wert auf Höflichkeit und respektvolles Verhalten ihrer Gäste legt. Daran ist nichts Falsches. Wenn man von der Anspruchshaltung so mancher Gäste hört, die ins Lokal einreiten, als müsse ihnen sofort jeder Wunsch erfüllt werden, dann kann ich mir gut vorstellen, dass man auch mal weniger herzlich empfangen wird. Wir möchten uns jedenfalls für den wunderbaren Abend bedanken und freuen uns schon darauf, dass wir morgen noch einmal zu Gast...
