We had an unpleasant experience at Paularei. The service was unfriendly, and the waiter made an inappropriate comment about our two-year-old after he dropped food on the floor; he implied that we should clean it up. Not a welcoming place for families.
Dear Eugen,
Thank you for your response.
I would like to clarify that Paularei is not the first — and certainly not the last — restaurant we’ve visited in Austria with our children. In fact, we've had many pleasant experiences in other Austrian establishments where families with young children were treated with warmth and understanding.
I also pointed out to the waiter that the table next to us had food (fries) on the floor as well, yet unlike us, they were not asked to clean it up. Furthermore, I must mention that the overall service was unfriendly even before the waiter commented on the cleanliness.
I'm sure you saw this as well, but you conveniently chose not to mention in your response that my wife cleaned both the floor and the table after the waiter complained about the mess — a task he clearly didn’t feel like doing himself. And despite that, we still left him a tip for his “exceptional” service.
Addressing paying customers in such a tone is not something I’ve encountered elsewhere in Austria, or around the world. That said, I’m sure there are customers who will find this style of service acceptable.

Read moreWe paid with Google pay. Transaction seemed normal on our side, also showed in our bank details. Employees insisted that "the table is still open" - whatever that means to them - and that they absolutely guarantee that the payment will be rejected within a few minutes so we should just pay again. We said this has never happened in our lives yet, so we decided to wait a few minutes before paying twice, to see it get rejected. Nothing happened. Then they said it will get rejected latest tomorrow, so we should just pay again, and the worst worst case (which will never happen) is that we will come again and they will pay us back. We had no wish to come again mid-trip, but didn't know what to do, they wouldn't really let us leave and insisted we didn't pay. So we paid again. Two days have passed, we've written and asked them to pay us back. They said they did. The payment didn't arrive yet. We now have to keep chasing them while travelling through Austria. And to think our payment (both of them) still included tip..
No food is worth this bad service. Would give zero stars if it...

So, first thing. Flachau is filled with flies during summertime, this is ofcourse something noone can do anything about. We vistited you with our two children, 7 and 8 y o. Our kids were chasing away flies with your beloved menus and one of your waiters came up and ripped them out of their hands, in a rude manor. He didnt say anything until after he ripped them from my childrens hands. He said " This is not a toy, think of the other guests who will handle the menus after you" He then walked away with the menus.. We foud this rude. i hope you understand why, if you dont i'll explain.
You made us feel less important than the other quests. The Porsche treffen gang we're doing the same thing with thier menus...
