This review is about the restaurant only, we live nearby and thus never stayed at the hotel. I have been to the Prandtauerhof many times over the years, food and wine were always excellent. Only once was I disappointed with the slow service when I took a guest from Vienna there for lunch. Having said that, let me describe what you get here: The Holzapfel family runs a winery right in the middle of the Wachau, and the Prandtauerhof is the winery cum restaurant and hotel. The dry, crisp white wines from the Holzapfels are among the very best I know of. The restaurant needs to match the superior wines, of course, and the young female chef does an awesome job at doing just that. The 700-plus-year old establishment offers a romantic and scenic backdrop for all the culinary delights you may enjoy here. For us, this was the location of choice for our wedding: the registrar from the Standesamt Weissenkirchen came to the Prandtauerhof to marry us in the old wine cellar - see photos. The cellar is heated in the colder season. If you want to do a church wedding, they also have a chapel on the grounds.||||Mrs. Holzapfel was personally doing the planning of our wedding menu with us, and we opted to have food adopted from the restaurant's regular springtime menu - variations of classical Austrian themes with some excursions to international cuisine and yet, local and seasonal flavors abounded. Our wedding guests from North America, the Caribbean and Europe were all pleased and amazed by the food. Wine-wise, particularly the dry Grüner Veltliner Federspiel we had had served with the starters was everybody's favorite. This wine alone is worth the trip here! Our wedding Torte, a variation of the Sacher Torte, was a delightful completion of an inspired meal. ||||The floral decoration, sourced from a local gardener, Hick, was splendid. ||||Service was unhurried, maybe a bit slow at the beginning. All in all, we were very pleased with our harmonious wedding without any major dramas or catastrophes, something that is not always guaranteed! We should add, though, that this is a high-end place and you should also expect high-end prices. If you love excellent wines, stellar food and the ambiance of an impressive 700 year old place, this is the right place for your wedding, your birthdays or - come with any other good excuse for going out for an...

The room was big and comfortable, the people very friendly and the breakfast excellent. ||The inner yard is beautiful and a fantastic place to sit in the morning with a coffee or in the afternoon with a glass of wine.||||It's located in a small village just outside Weissenkirchen where there are a few heurige (restaurants) at walking distance but there is no big choice when you're walking. The restaurant in the hotel was closed during our stay so I can't judge this but going by the rest I am sure it's also great. ||By bike or car you're in Weissenkirchen in only a few minutes, it's also walkable in about 10 - 15min.||||I can highly recommend Holzapfels Prandtauerhof if you're planning on staying in Wachau...
