What a hidden gem in Linz! An excellent lunch that would rival the star kitchens in London. We celebrated our anniversary here with a quiet Sunday lunch. The ambience was beautiful, modern and the staff were courteous, friendly and made us feel very welcome. I absolutely loved the home made lemonade, never had anything like it. We ordered Gambas Pil Pil (that chilli oil was fantastic to dip the bread in and prawns were perfectly cooked and served in a sizzler), Patatas Bravas, grilled veg, Pan con tomate, croquettas with jamon which were another excellent dish, and my absolute favourite - the tortilla which is better than any I had in Spain, it was perfection. All the flavours were well balanced and well thought out. Not one dish had any comments we like to make as everything was just great and the quality of the ingredients along with the chef's skills shows.. We ended the meal with cafe con leche and an another star, the dessert Espuma de crema catalana. I was expecting the same old Crema Catalana I had many times in my life but this blew our minds. I haven't had a more perfectly balanced dessert in a long time. The custard foam underneath with the caramel crackle combined with the crumble was stunning!!! Highly recommend La Madrina. We will go again but also take our guests if they visit Linz. We noted there is an evening cover charge but Lunch didn't have any, we didn't reserve but walked in.

I tried many times to get a table without a reservation, which is impossible. It is a small restaurant. The owner makes sure personally that every customer is well attended to. In the end, when we paid, she really took the time to ask us in a very serious manner if everything was okay. And it was, but I have to mention that it's a pricey restaurant. There is nothing to discuss on the issue since the standard is very high. It's definitely worth it. 😉

I wanted this to be a positive experience, but I found it difficult. I waited 30 minutes for a paella (as the menu warns: it will take 30 minutes). But I also ordered a salad! I was so so hungry and the salad was only brought out about 5 minutes before the paella. The flavor of the paella was not excellent. In my head, I was thinking how much tastier a meal I can make in 10 minutes! Alas, I was far from home. The bill came with a €3.90 charge for service and a €4 charge for hot water. I was having a sensitive stomach and hot water helps. These charges on top of a very expensive dish of paella made the total go to €39. No wonder the place was empty besides one table. Not a wonderful meal, not a...
