Strandgasthaus Birner — Restaurant in Vienna

Used to have real good food as it Is within walking distance from my in-laws in Vienna. My brother in law warned me already but I didn't want to listen... He was right, with the exception of all the fried stuff, nothing is worth talking about not ordering. Wife had a Zwiebelrostbraten which turned out to be an overcooked beef schnitzel, the spinach of my mother in law looked like it was cooked a week ago an looked more yellow than green. The Cordon Bleu was tuff, and the Gulasch was a "Saft Fleisch). We also had Palatschinken which were made the day before and reheated in a microwave. Service is always friendly and attentive. Prices are very reasonable. I also know that they have a great spread of Hearings Schmaus and a Wild buffet once a year, which unfortunately never had time to attend. So this review has nothing to do with Birner's special events.

We arrived as a family of 5, plus a dog. Peak time, summer, 5pm, bank holiday in Vienna. Place was half full, we still got a really nice spot under the wisterias. 2 tables put together quick, since more of them are for 4. After ordering drinks, no more than 5mins, all drinks out, chilled, perfect. One of us got the garlic cream soup, within minutes. After finishing, bowl cleared, next dishes immediately in front of us. Very very delicious all of them, portions decent. All of us were full by the end. One thing that's should be emphasised more: no bank card payment, only cash. This is pretty major and if we hadn't seen the A4 notice at the entrance, we would have been surprised. No good service, the waiters they were rude to us and we noticed that because we didn’t speak German they put us in a table that we didn’t want to sit. We wanted to sit in a table next to river which was with no reservation last minute they came to us and they changed us a table with the excuse that this table will be reserved 1:30 hours after us. We explained to them that we will not gonna stay that much and they were instead to move table. 5 minutes later a couple came and they told them that they didn’t have reservation and the waiters they placed this couple in this table that we wanted it to sit ( the couple were speaking German).
