Okay I'll tell you about my experience here. Buckle up as this'll be a long one.
Me and my 3 friends decided to eat here after a week of Sziget festival, needless to say that we were quite exhausted. I personally was feeling pretty ill as we visited Yume.
As soon as we entered the owner met us. We'll call him Mr Sake from here, why will become clear later. Mr Sake was very kind and already deserved his first star in this review. The restaurant looked clean and the visible kitchen in the middle of the restaurant did too. That's the second star right there.
We ordered the "I love sushi" big boat on recommendation of Mr Sake. After a pretty short wait the boat arrived. Third star. Now things got interesting as Mr Sake told the restaurant there was a freshly married couple present which he thought deserved some free Sake on the house. We all cheered and drank our sake which was quite good too. 3,5 stars.
As we started our sushi we were delighted by it's taste. The fish was very fresh and everything was so delicious. 4th star earned by the food. From here on out Mr Sake asked us questions about where we were from and whatnot. We quickly discovered there wasn't an answer which didn't result in some free Sake of Jägermeißter which he had in his pocket. No seriously, the guy seemed to have an endless supply of Jägermeißter in his pocket.
When we finished the food and wanted to pay, Mr Sake chatted with us some more, granting us more free sake rights. As we were all stuffed from the boat, and already had a fair share of sake, we couldn't handle any more. But Mr Sake didn't approve of this and went to the kitchen to get some more. We told our waiter to hurry up with the payment because we were afraid we wouldn't be able to leave without binge drinking sake. Mind you, we had Sziget festival behind us which was already a week of drinking.
We didn't make it in time, Mr Sake had found more sake and made us drink even more. On our way out he gave us a very friendly handshake and a lollipop. I frigging love lollipops so there's your fifth star.
10/10 would...
Read moreLegit review from an Asian who has been to Japan twice and have had Japanese dishes a lot here.
GO HERE IF : you like to interact with the chef, trying fake fusion dishes, loud/noisy/upbeat atmosphere (screaming, drinking, mediocre food good for drinking). Fairly big restaurant which can accommodate many people. Far location (10km plus from city center of Vienna, the tram on its way back and forth smells like vomits). Late opening restaurant. Cheaper price.
DO NOT GO HERE IF: you like authentic Japanese food. Quiet atmosphere, delicacy and the carefulness of Japanese people. And of course, DECENT/GOOD food. (we tried Ebi Mini on our last day in Vienna and highly recommend it).
The food here for us are : Salty, oily ridiculously "fused" as in fusion dishes which make no sense. Why call it a Japanese restaurant when you serve mixed version of everything ?
No delicacy, no effort on trying. Not worth going far away to eat here.
Their definition of Japanese food is putting surimi sticks into every dishes.
We asked for a ramen but was served : udon with red paprika 🤡 and mushrooms. How do you call this authentic ramen ?
Plain broth. Mediocre 🍣 sushi.
Staff: was overall helpful and welcoming. They sing during cooking (hope everything is clean enough in the kitchen).
Sometimes focusing on the food and some really good dishes is better than creating an atmosphere with...
Read moreOMG - hahaha, yeah - for real. If you check out the menu beforehand, you might ask yourself, why OMG? Trust me, you will know the answer within minutes of stepping inside. First glance - it's a small modern and standard japanese diner. Quite busy in the evening, definitely call ahead, even for two people. The quality of food and drinks is A-ok and yeah, you will get used to the hustling and bustling ;) The menu is quite diverse, you will for sure something to satisfy your desires. There are even menu items specific for certain regulars! In the back, there is a traditional seating room - shoes off and sitting on the floor. The starters are quite yummy and get you excited for more. The sushi is top notch as are all the other, wonderfully crafted items. All freshly prepared and served.
