Smitty’s Beach Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Bimini

I stopped by on Tuesday, 11-14-23 while cruising. I'm assuming they may have been short staffed. You can seat yourself, but I was seated a while before I was able to place my order.

I was torn between the Bahamian conch fritters & the conch bites. I went with the fritters but I'm thinking I would've enjoyed the bites a little more. The fritters weren't bad; just not the best I've ever had. They were always great in Nassau & Freeport.

I also went on a limb to order the baked macaroni. I've always heard negative things about Caribbean macaroni. The macaroni was much better than the fritters to me. I also ordered a pineapple juice. The macaroni wasn't listed with the sides, but I saw it listed with the Its A Down Home Ting entree. The Crystal hot sauce brought back nostalgic memories of Baltimore.

The vibe was pretty laid back. Enjoyed the Caribbean music that was playing when I came in. There was a large group of caucasians there & I guess that's why the guy I guess was in charge went to the laptop and put on Sweet Caroline. I think it was pretty obvious that that was not the move; the guy went back & changed the music to a mix of 70s thru 90s music.

The structure is kinda open air. It started raining. I moved from an outer chair to an inner chair at the same table and stayed dry. Went to the bar to get my check; it didn't take long to cash out. Stopped in for a bite to eat and a cold drink. We were told to seat ourselves and since only 1 other table was occupied that wasn’t a problem. The bar had a group of about 7 people who were all in uniform gathered around. The waitress came to take our order promptly and unfortunately things went down from here. Our beers took about 15 min to arrive, the table next to us was having the same experience. While we waited the party at the bar continued with shot after shot. I asked for a couple more beers as ours had been empty for at least 10 min she said ok and just never brought them. My husband’s food finally arrived and we asked for drinks again since we were still dry. I had ordered a side of Mac and cheese for my meal and it did not appear until my husband was finished his meal and to top it off she just plunked it at the table next to us. The man at the table said what’s this and she just walked away. I said if it’s macaroni then it’s probably mine so he passed it over to me, sadly my beer never did appear. The waitresses were not interested in us being there in the slightest. They were having a great time with the group at the bar which is fine, but for us the experience was really a negative one. Saw all the reviews about the great service and food. Unfortunately, we had the wrong server. Destiny clearly did not want us there and had an attitude as soon as we sat down. Had to go to the bar to get our order finally taken. Took 30 minutes (and 2 more bar visits) to get drinks. We had to keep asking other servers about the food and after them telling us they'd find our server multiple times, Destiny finally appeared from out the back. An hour and a half later we got half of our groups food and none of it was hot. After almost 2 hrs we told them to forget about the rest and we'd just pay for what actually came out as we had to leave. Once we said we were leaving she suddenly said the other food was ready but we told her don't bother and to bring us the check. Again, judging by the temperature of the first batch it was probably ready and just waiting for her to decide to actually bring it out. Definitely won't be stopping here...
