Visited Harlequin twice in our week in the gap and both times had an excellent experience. The first night we walked up to a full restaurant and expected to be turned away as there were no available tables but Keith the owner was working the podium and told us to return in a half hour. After a stroll through the gap we retuned to be seated and have probably the best waitress weāve experienced in Barbados make our evening outstanding Thanks Angela! The food was delicious, we were checked up on often, water glasses never empty, and felt appreciated. On our last night we decided to returnā¦.. Again greeted by Keith and even though it was again a full house he managed to find us a table (which by the way he cleared himself ) This night however they were short two servers and just as busy as ever. I have never witnessed an owner work as hard as Keith did that evening, clearing tables, seating customers, checking in on the guests and basically truly caring about his business! We missed Angela as she must have been off but were served by Jenne (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) Again the best service imaginableā¦ā¦we order a bottle of wine first and she came out quickly to apologize that she had to wait I minute for the bartender to return to reach down a couple of glasses which we had a laugh about. Again even being short handed the service was outstanding the food came out quickly and was delicious again, and as the restaurant slowed down Keith came over to check in and we had a lovely visit with Jenne and told them both they deserved a glass of wine and to put their feet up! Do yourself a favour and visit this restaurant at least once in your visit to Barbadosā¦you will enjoy yourself and Iām sure you will be treated as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHaving been a chef for the major part of my adult life, its very rare that I can sit at a table in a restaurant and not find fault with the smallest detail, whether it be the food, the service, cleanliness or whatever. This place made me verrryyyy happyyyyy. The service was excellent, the waitresses were very pleasant and attentive. My youngest spilled her drink and a gentleman, whom I presumed to be the owner, tidied our spot right up ( thumbs up right there!) The food was great! It came out on time, hot and everyone enjoyed their food from the apps to the dessert. The rum punch was on point ( I wanted a third but I endeavour to be a responsible parent...when it counts) So just to list, we had : the calamari was great, the mixed seafood app was excellent, the cajun chicken dinner was yummy, the mahi mahi was delicious and the surf and turf looked good (those two individuals didn't share with the rest of us). Wish I had gotten more photos but I was busy enjoying the food. Basically, EVERYTHING was enjoyable and I had a fabulous night. Barbados was a great vacation spot and having dinner here on our last night just tied it up in a nice bow for us. Thank you to Harlequin and the staff. for the enjoyable dining experience. the best I've had in a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey try to be fine dining, they fail. Ambiente and service are nice and people give everything to make it right and special. But then there's the food. Food is massively overpriced and of sub-par preparation quality. We had: A starter of mixed samosas, you have to guess what's in because by taste it's hard to say. Is it fish? Is it potatoe? 15USD. Barbados' speciality, the flying fish, thrown in a flour herb mix and deep fried, served with rubbery potatoes that seemed to be prepped hours before with a serving of liquid garlic butter. The herb mix was the only well seasoned piece of food. Pretty surely the butter was boiled, so it was basically seasoned butter fat. 30USD for fish and chips with liquid garlic ghee. Bland, cooked chicken in a "peppery" cream sauce, no pepper taste at all. No chicken taste. They managed to even undersalt it. A spoon of rice with some corn in it, no bite to it. 29USD. A bottle of cabernet sauvignon for 24USD that seemed more like a six dollar supermarket issue, served in a very nice cooler though.
Maybe our standards are too high, but for 100USD, even on an island, we expected way more. Again, service and ambiente were nice. It's the food that is boring and...
