Matiate — Restaurant in Antwerp

I recently had the misfortune of dining at Matiate, and I can honestly say it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this place was a far cry from what it claimed to be. Let's start with the service. The staff at this restaurant seemed to think they were doing customers a favor by serving them. Their attitude was nothing short of appalling – rude, dismissive, and full of unwarranted attitude. It felt like they were doing us a favor by even acknowledging our presence. The lack of basic courtesy was astounding.

Now, on to the drinks. I ordered a mocktail expecting a refreshing and cold beverage to quench my thirst. Instead, what I got was a lukewarm concoction that tasted like a failed chemistry experiment. When I asked the waiter why the mocktail wasn't cold, he merely shrugged it off as if it was the most normal thing in the world to serve a lukewarm drink. Their indifference to the quality of their offerings was evident.

The pizza I ordered was a whole new level of disappointment. It looked like someone had randomly tossed a handful of raw vegetables onto an uncooked pizza crust and called it a day. The vegetables were clearly not cooked, and the crust was doughy and undercooked in the middle. It was a culinary disaster that left me wondering if anyone in the kitchen had the slightest clue about food preparation.

The worst part of it all was that despite the obvious issues with the food and service, the waitstaff showed no remorse or regret. They didn't seem to care that they were serving subpar dishes and lukewarm drinks to their paying customers. It was as if customer satisfaction was the last thing on their minds.

In conclusion, dining a Matiate was a complete waste of time and money. The poor service, rude staff, unappetizing food, and lack of professionalism make this place one to avoid at all costs. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy. Save yourself the disappointment and find a dining establishment that actually values its customers and takes pride in the quality of...

We came to the establishment with a large group. We ordered and started eating with some minor mistakes that were quickly addressed (pizza without the requested toppings, etc). The food was fine, all was OK until one of the children, halfway through their meal had to go to the bathroom urgently. When she game back just a few minutes later, the table was cleared and her food was gone. The waiters did it so quickly that those who sat at the table didn't even have time to react. After much back and forth, another half a pizza (but without the topping that was ordered) was angrily provided. We asked to take it to go. The result was the final straw - the pizza was folded in half and thrust into a paper bag with aluminum foil. Followed by a death stare as I paid for our meal. Overall, it was an incredibly unpleasant experience. Clearly a place that does not value...

Good atmosphere and accommodating staff but the standard of the food is pretty low. The kebab I ordered was tasteless and looked like something you would only order from a cheap takeaway at 1:00 am after a boozy night. I was really disappointed with the food and that was before I found a short curly hair in it. When i pointed this to the waitress she took it back to the kitchen and came back offering to bring something else which I refused, while informing me that the chef was bald and the hair couldn't have been his. I failed to see how this is relevant but to her credit, the hair did not look like it originated from a head anyway.

I would never set foot there again or recommend it to anyone. But then again as i said, the atmosphere and thr staff are quite nice. So if you don't mind overpriced, rubbish food and the occasional pubic hair...
