De Roode Leeuw — Restaurant in Brasschaat

A 17:00 reservation on a Tuesday in Feb with 5 adults and 1 toddler to celebrate a birthday. Started off well (reservation requests regarding high chair and table location with space for a big dog were met, and drinks offered and served in a timely manner). However, from there on out it was just one issue after another. We ended up needing to ask to order food because we were forgotten. Starters were okay (not good, not bad). Mains were of low quality standard. Fish was overcooked (and arrived 5 mins later than the rest of the mains), ribs were no good, lamb was no good, vol au vent had a piece of bone in it of +/-3x1cm, cannelloni was so extremely salty it could hardly be eaten. Fries were powdery and undercooked. We had to ask for the dessert menu and then again to order dessert because we were forgotten again. Drinks were forgotten 3 times. The dessert took upwards of 40 minutes to arrive. A "big group party upstairs" is no excuse for that. Birthday guest was asked who the birthday guest was regarding the dessert surprise. TOO many things went wrong. Forgetting a drink here and there and not knowing who the birthday guest is, is all not a big deal when the rest goes well. But when so much goes wrong, then everything adds up to a big deal. De Rode Leeuw used to be our go-to place, where service, food, and atmosphere was always ALWAYS good....

I can't say enough. I've lived here for awhile and had a bit of a bad experience when we just wanted drinks and hors d'oeuvre. However, with a dinner reservation....it was lovely. The staff were very accommodating, and the food was some of the best I've experienced here in Brasschaat. Because of that one night, they got fives across. From our soup and veal in the beginning to our steaks. Everything was delectable. The dessert...the...

This is our 2nd time eating here. It's confirmed that the service is super super slow. For our 1st time here, we have to wait 1.5h to have our main course served (we ordered only drink and no apero or starter). For this 2nd time, dishes on table after almost 1 hour even though the restaurant is not full at all (it was 6pm on monday). Price is on the high side. Food is ok but not excellent. Not worth...
