Le Café Ardennais🍺 — Restaurant in Dinant

We were extremely excited to eat here… Incredibly disappointing experience! TL/DR: staff ignored us for 1.5 hour with no explanation or apology as we waited on our food.

We waited over an hour on our main, and noticed all the tables around us (who came later) were getting their food. Even big companies of 6+ people. We asked about our food and were told it was ready as the waiter ran away mid-sentence. We waited another 15 minutes, asked again, and were greeted with the same hasty answer. Finally after another 15 minutes we walked up to the bar and asked to speak with anybody who spoke English. Again we were told it was ready, but this time actually received our food.

The food itself was underwhelming. The burger tasted alright, but was very dry and nothing special. The meatballs in beer were very very tasty, but there was nothing fresh to counterbalance the fatty/sweet taste. So everything quickly tastes the same.

We received no apology from the staff and no explanation. Only a free beer. I think the main problem with this was that the staff does not speak English so they simply did not know how to explain or apologise to us. It was very frustrating to be sat 1.5 hours being ignored by all the staff and then not receive an apology or explanation whatsoever.

Do recommend the shrimp croquettes tho! We received those within 10 minutes and they were delicious. But you do pay €15 for two, so keep...

What a racist restaurant this is! How can this restaurant afford to have more than a four out of five rating! About two years ago, when my friends and I walked into this restaurant trying to ask if we could be seated, the waiter in the restaurant said there were no seats available. The truth is that there were about 20 people eating and another 50 empty seats in the restaurant. If the story ended here, I probably wouldn't be here about two years later leaving this review. To add insult to injury, one of those 20 people eating threw a candy at me and brushed against my face. I probably wouldn't have received an apology from the group of people who were eating if my classmate hadn't immediately stepped forward and argued in French, which I don't speak and cannot understand. However, the waiter at this restaurant didn't come up to me and say a word while this was going on, or even look at us again after refusing us a meal. That's the whole truth, and I hope to get an apology from this restaurant in about two years. Otherwise, this restaurant will never deserve a four out of five rating. As for why I chose to comment now, it's because I see that people close to me are being discriminated against as well, and as they speak out, I'm going to do the same for myself! What a shame. This restaurant really disgraced Dinant, Wallonie...

Le Café Ardennais - Masterful Meal Management for a Large Group

Our reunion group (15 one night and 13 the next) dined here two successive evenings (July 18/19) and Le Café Ardennais delivered on their reputation for great food and excellent service.

Managing a meal for a large group poses a unique challenge for any restaurant, requiring not only culinary expertise but also nimble organisation, strategic timing, and exceptional service. At the manager’s suggestion we chose in advance from a prix fixe menu and what could easily have become an exercise in chaos was transformed into a harmonious dining experience, where the correct dishes arrived at the right time for everyone. The pacing of our meal was excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive.

On our second evening, we felt like we were coming home and the entire team treated us with the appreciation that comes from knowing we could easily have dined elsewhere in the dining hotspot that is Dinant.

As the organizers of these dinners, we received rave reviews from our guests but really, all the credit goes to Team...
