We waited at the door for over 20 minutes without anyone coming to us, not even to ask why we were there! Finally, a blonde elderly lady came to see us and we felt that she was rather annoyed with our presence. We were seated inside, where there is air conditioning. The temperatures are high in Belgium at this time of year (summer, August, around 28-30°C), but the air conditioning was off. The door was open, but all the flies were inside and the atmosphere was stuffy... We asked for a bottle of water at least 3-4 times and it took 20 minutes in order to get it. And even more, to get a menu to order... after waiting for more than 40 minutes, we finally got someone to order. The smoked salmon pasta is actually served with very small pieces of fresh salmon, for a price of 20 euros. We did not feel well after this plate, so we decided to have an ice-cream to wash away the taste. Terrible, more like sugary ice cubes with colouring, 3 small scoops for 10 eur. And the 75cl bottle of water for 9 eur. So a person would pay around 35-40 eur for a plate of pasta, a poor quality ice cream and a glass of water. When we left, the man who took our credit card was so rude to the point we were wondering if we were 'welcome' in his restaurant or not. Not even a 'merci' or 'au revoir'. A Greek family restaurant that as we understand is run by the family themselves.
Big disappointment.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The good reviews are probably...
Read moreAs an American visiting Belgium for the first time, I feel it's a shame that the hostile atmosphere created by the staff of Le Lion Belge will forever linger in my memory of what has otherwise been a pleasant trip so far.
The host was courteous enough to seat us at a dirty booth, and in the process, a waiter had welcomed me with a collision of dirty plates to my back. The waiter was only bothered to let out an annoyed "excusez-moi, sorry" as he glared at me and continued past to the kitchen. It was a slow Wednesday night, leaving fellow guests to wonder if this was intentional or not.
After 20 minutes from being seated, not a single waiter could be bothered to take our order. That's a shame since the pictures on Google and the food on other guests' plates seemed really appetizing. But perhaps the issue here is a matter of perception. Perhaps Le Lion Belge's food is merely a sightseeing attraction for tourists visiting Belgium and is only best left for locals to enjoy. We quietly departed without having ordered anything and found neighboring restaurants more willing to serve food to eat, not...

My Cousin and I had dinner at the le Lion Belge Restaurant. It was a recommendation of our hotel. The location was pretty good and the waiter with the gray hair and white shirt was very welcoming. He talk to us in French :) so we tried it too haha. Let’s come to dinner. I’ve got a hot goat cheese salad with honey and my cousin got Flemish carbonade (like Goulash). The goat cheese was very good but the salad wasn’t really special. The price wasn’t worth it. The Flemish carbonade was very fatty so it wasn’t that good as well. The classic Pinot Gris 2020 was really really good so try it. It’s worth it!! When we asked for a bottle, we were only looked at diagonally as if we couldn't afford it. So he repeat at two times….. When the waiter gave us the dessert card even though we didn't want anything, he let us sit for another 45 minutes and ignored us. It was the same as we wanted to pay. We had to get up and go to the front. The waiter with the black hair and beard was very inexperienced, rude and...
